Bernd Lehan: I mustn't say too much on this. One example: In previous games you could steer the capital ships on your own, from the bridge. You cannot do this any more. It was some content which didn't make lots of fun. Of course, it was cool. That was why we did it in the previous games. But somehow it was something what could only be seen by a small part of the players, and those, who had got so far, didn't do it (steering the capital ships) for a long time. And such things won't be included this time.
I think we'll still be able to fly Capships, but in a diffrent control way, like RTS point & click way. In real life captain doesn't steer ship by himself, but rather issue commands (point & click).

I think it would be a nice way to fix major IMBA in Player controlled capship vs AI controlled capship.


IMO some voices that we'll be limited to only one ship are too dramatic. X-R with only one flyable ship would be a total failure for X-comunity and large step backward (to X-BTF). I'm sure that EGOSOFT is aware that a lot of people (me included) wouldn't buy X-R if there would be a limited ship selection (like one ship, or fighters only).


Personally I think that non-direct control to capship would be good thing. As i said it was IMBA, plus in TC I never flew M1/M2 by myself, sometimes I flew M7 with frontal gunpoints, but most time I spent in my Vidar or other M6. I had a large capship fleet, but I prefered to command it from my Vidar, so I hope that in X-R I will still be able to have non-direct control of capships.

Maybe this will be a reboot in a way and be limited to one ship...and as sequels come out, we'll get more ships, just like how XBTF expands all the way to X3TC.

In Bernd I trust, but if there's only one ship, I'll trust the mods to do their job. :P

One ship game is a big NO NO due to two things. First you have a weak lame ship, but then with upgrades you have a kickass ship that chew multiple M2 for a lunch (X-BTF).

As long as we'll be able to fly any ship type from fighter to Corvette and we'll be able to buy and command capships (M7,M2,M1 and TL) indirectly I will be happy. As I mentioned before, direct/manual capship flying was boring so I don't mind it's removal.

I'm hoping for an official translation soon, or the equivalent info posted in English by Egosoft, not asking for more than has been posted in that German interview, but automatic translation tools are'nt brilliant, they can mistranslate, and not give a human element to whats said as the pages i translated show, because we are going on rough auto matic translations we dont know what the INTENT of the game is with regards to flying ships. Darkstar One had a ship that evolved as you played and progressed, it could stay a fighter, or be worked towards heavy gunboat/corvette type ship handling and firepower. However i dont think that will fit here, from what has been said by others, and the pics i have seen and info Egosoft have already given us in the trailer and reveal posts i think we start with and old and honoured ship, ( for some reason every time i watch the reveal trailer i keep thinking of the A.P Gunner) and if you have a female co-pilot i forsee her flying while you man the guns or vice versa, or you giving her orders on how to deploy the fleet,(once/if you gaine one) what they should target or you have conversations on where to go and what to do and why, However, all this is still speculation and conjecture, but if you start in a corvette style ship with multiple pilots she must have some other reason for being there, if she was to fly and you man guns, that would get real boring/annoying real quick. 90% of the X series is about you flying ships, and with mention of the combat taking place closer to the surface of stations I think that means we will still be in charge of our fighter craft, unless they have improved on the original way of manually controlling another ship you had in a monitor by remote control.

Ai yea just as long as Cap ships are still in the game and usable by the player in a direct or indirect way I shall be happy.

I agree, google translator is really bad. I will delete my post and translate it myself. Just have some patience. Though, I think it is not necessary to have "official" translations, even the official statements can never be clear enough for this forum ;-) Furthermore, I don't think Egosoft will translate every single interview that can be found on the internet, nevertheless I think every little counts!

I kind of like the thought of a study sim. It's never been elegantly carried out in space afaik. Staffing stations, exploration, a deep layer of complexity in a single craft within a complex and varied universe (and map). Maybe standing up, walking around (on the ship), crewing it, sitting down and strapping in, and of course barking orders at failing commanders.

(NB: Imagination/Speculation made on partial translation, I can't read German)

I'm going to reserve judgement until I get my hands on it. As we've seen the X's move from BTF through TC, it has been an upgrade of a similar idea. I think it's good that Ego may be trying something new and a bit risky. I trust that the challenge of complexity will remain, or even become more difficult, which is the primary reason I enjoy the X games.

OMG Thank you so much.

I have to say, X-BTF was a purchase i made without any trailers or reviews, i saw it in the shop the day it was released, and bought it, That was it i was hooked, each release since has been bought on day of release, ( i havent got the superbox yet, due to lack of cash, and not having seen it in any shops here) and now all cash is being saved for new PC parts for when X-Rebirth is released, as from what i saw of that alpha footage, i think im going to be happy with this one as well.
