The act has only been used three times before in U.S. history, all during wars. Its most recent application was during the Second World War, when it was used to incarcerate Germans and Italians as well as for the mass internment of Japanese-American civilians.
James E. Boasberg, chief judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, said he needed to issue his order immediately because the government was already flying migrants it claimed were newly deportable under Trump's proclamation to El Salvador and Honduras to be incarcerated there. El Salvador already agreed this week to take up to 300 migrants that the Trump administration designated as gang members.

I have to give it to them, they did a great job of relabeling white male supremacy and making it marketable. „Anti-political correctness“, „Anti-Woke“, „Anti-DEI“ and so on. All it ever meant was: People who are not white*, straight* and male* should have less rights. Yet they managed to make the focus on who they were against, instead of actually focusing on who this was beneficial to.

Social Security IS NOT on the chopping block. The Social Security administration itself, as with all federal agencies is under DOGE review. Ever since I can remember, Social Security has been the boy who called wolf. It's true that we could lose SS, but that would only happen when the country goes bankrupt. Preventing such an outcome, is why DOGE exists!
Again, we should be cheering DODGE, not blaming the sad state of current affairs on it.

Still part of it is been cut, which then might mean that more will likely get cut, even if some of the workforce does lose their jobs, it will still effect people getting checks etc. So people should not be cheering DOGE. it will only be a matter of time.

Actually, the people "feeding" this narrative are reports from SSA and the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). The SSA's 2024 Trustees Report indicates that the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) Trust Fund will be able to pay 100% of scheduled benefits until 2033. At that point, the fund's reserves will be depleted.
Congress has a habit of kicking this can down the road, and they’ve pulled last-minute fixes before. I can't be bothered weeding through budget reports for exact links right now. You can search yourself if you are interested.
I understand why you are so upset. Too bad you are pointing in the wrong direction. Actually, there is no single direction. Both parties have abused and neglected the SS system for a long time.You've been fed a lie, and you should be absolutely ashamed of yourself for believing a damn word of it.
That is why it is curious that Democrats are so opposed to DOGE. Everyone benefits from increased government efficiency. I think it is a case of anything and everything that Trump, or anyone associated with him does is automatically bad and must be blindly condemned.

Has to be said, trimming waste, increasing efficiency, isn't a bad thing. The concern should be whether that's what is actually going to happen - to be the outcome. Do they have anyone, or recruiting anyone, or identifying anyone capable of finding/improving/optimising?
One thing Govt departments are legendary for is entrenchment and therefore failing to keep up/improve/adapt or adopt best/latest practices. Unless you've employed the people who are talented and capable of doing so, things can't get better just by "cutting" departments. It's not going to force improvements either... and from the howls, most seem to believe none of this is intending to improve/optimise. Just to cut/punish.
Are you really confident that the cuts are going to improve things? Create/generate innovations and practices that deliver better, faster, stronger than before? Really? Or do you just believe that they're vastly overstaffed and plain lazy.

When it comes to Trump, I am not confident of anything. On the other hand, I was confident that Biden/Harris would do the wrong thing. I do think that there is probably a lot of waste, inefficiencies and likely fraud in the mix. These things are natural with entrenched bureaucracies. Whether and to what extent the current administration can improve the situation remains to be seen. Right now, it all seems overly hurried and brutal, with little consideration to the devastating impact this is having on people affected.

Trump was the worst choice. Biden was weak and old. He didn't deal with issues. Part of it was because of the election coming up. Biden should have armed Ukraine better with fewer restrictions. Some weapons where destroyed that Ukraine could have used. Would have been cheaper than destroying them also. Harris would have been the best choice. US hasn't been in a worse position in a very long time and it's still going down hill.

On a bit of an odd and somewhat lighter note, America has been going around asking countries for eggs. They now have also asked us (Germany). Now, I don't really have an opinion on this, eggs are currently cheap here (my supermarket sells 18 eggs for 4€), but the thing I found somewhat interesting is that they also asked Denmark. You have been threatening Denmark for weeks now and you now you come crawling to them for eggs? WTF? Why would Denmark of all people help America solve its first world problem?
