Great topic! I have 3 questions:

1. Can you describe how hacking panels work? When you press on them some lua script is activated which performs some action?

2. Any chance in the near future to get script updates to trigger the action from the md script to let's say open trade menu?

3. Is Egosoft planning to release any modding tools some day?

This is something I am also interested in.
Plugins for existing programs or whole tools to create own content, a script IDE maybe?

maybe you didn't check this, which tools exactly do you expect?

You can change the dat files, you can create your own MD scripts, etc..

@erza: A documented SDK which integrates with Visual Studio would be nice. You wouldn't need to gues and use trail and error as much ;)

Perhaps even a debugger.

I guess there wont be a documented SDK, thats just out of the scope for us here :(
Pipeline wise the DB is a bit in the way for asset modding, currently we do not have concrete plans for more modding tools here sadly :( This may change in the future.
I would love to see more user generated content, still surprised, what is possible with the limited tools you all have avaliable. Impressive for sure!

Has egosoft everthought about letting the communitie develop their own tools by sharing the source code with the highest level devnet users. There are some gifted indiviuals there.

So is modding even more restricted than with X3? I thought the whole point of the new engine was to make modding more friendly and accessible. :gruebel:

I would say its pretty open right now! XML editor and a bit of time and you can create pretty darn awesome mods! Tools just would make the work of the modders way faster and easier to get into :)

@Slashman: From what I can tell the new engine is far less restrictive in terms of data/content modding. Where it gets more complex is the scripting side of things as some things are hard-coded, others are in LUA scripting domain, and then there is the Mission Director scripting domain as well.

In general, things are so different from X3 that calling it more or less restrictive is possibly down to perspective as much as anything (IMO).

Where did you get the info on the new ships?
i would guess on the currently running 3.0 Beta
if not stated otherwise everything i post is licensed under WTFPL

Ich mache keine S&M-Auftragsarbeiten, aber wenn es fragen gibt wie man etwas umsetzen kann helfe ich gerne weiter ;)

I wont do Script&Mod Request work, but if there are questions how to do something i will GLaDly help ;)
