But in Windows version "Control" key does not have this amazing feature and holding it while placing factory affects nothing!
How that could be explained and, if possible, passed to WIndows devs so they could implement that? Precision in complex building in vanilla game would be very nice to have.
Hmm thanks this is another good test case for the input issues (e.g. spastic menu movement).
Or maybe (thanks to you) I could just call it all a feature and skip trying to fix it]:->
Just kidding, I'm afraid I will try to fix it, which will probably remove this behaviour but I'll see if a proper solution can be made.

Great work on Build 7 :) I can confirm that The Hub sector is working correctly.

There's also some windows stuff I'm responsible for, though fear not, it'll also benefit the gnu/linux client. So all's right with the world;p

Thanks for the heads up about Rebirth ;)

Hmm, I have terrible lags in Hub sector (very low fps), anyone else with same behavior?

Today I've seen an update on both X3R and X3TC from Steam. I have played X3TC for a couple of hours following the Terran Defender starting plot, scan pirate shipyard, patrols, first encounter with terraformer ships in treasure chest... everything perfect with no problems.

The only remaining problem seems to be the hateful hiccups but those are in windows version too so...

Amazing work Timon.

Nope The Hub sector is running just as good for me as any other sector.

I Think I found a new Bug:

#Description:
The Game crashes with a "Floating point exception (core dumped)" message it the terminal.

#steps to reproduce
-load this save: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/433253/X13.sav
-leave the station and fight the nearby Xenon Q
-the game reliably crashes within a couple of seconds

#System data:
- Tested on Ubuntu 13.04 (and also 12.04 before)
- Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz
- 16Gb Ram
- Nvidia GTX 275 (with v313.30 nvidia proprietary drivers supplied by ubuntu)

Unfortunatly I dont have another Gaming-PC avaiable to test if is specific to my hardware. Could someone else confirm the crash please.

PS: I also noticed that hits from the Prototype Starburst Shockwave Cannon sometimes turn half the screen white (I assume its only half because I have Vsync off). I dont know if this is intended behaviour, though I find it anoying...

Unable to recreate this one on Debian Wheezy using ATI gfx card. Was flying around the Xenon Q for about 5 mins and no crash.

This does happen on mine using your save.

Thanks for testing the save.

Maybe its nvidia specific...

@Nerv84
I also can't reproduce it and I'm on nvidia 313.30:(
Can you test if this always happens in certain situations, e.g. when you shoot a specific weapon (e.g. try fighting without using the starburst and see if it crashes).
The core file could be helpful if you can upload it somewhere.

I can reproduce the starburst graphical issue and it's a possible cause so I'll try fixing that first.

I can confirm it also happens without using the Starburst cannon. I disabled all turrets and fired only with the M/AM launcher, the game still crashed.

Funnily enough the crash is getting harder and harder to reproduce for me the more I test. I have managed to beat the Q with any combination of weapons without a crash by now...

What file is that, where can I find it?

I have been playing X3TC and just noticed I never received any steam achievements.

Anyone else able to confirm this? I should have received the 'Captain of Industry' achievement now too and haven't.

Do you have the achievements menu in-game (personal/my achievements in the left menu)? You do need to run the game through steam (running by hand from a console won't work). I'm guessing you're having this issue for all achievements, not just a few right?

Yes, I have the achievements menu in game, and am running the game directly from Steam.

I went through them, and noticed that I have at least begun earning against the 'On the Beat' achievement now (having only just started missions and attacking pirates recently). Did you address it in a recent update? I'm not certain exactly what build I would have been on when I should have got the Captain of Industry achievement.

I'll start a new pilot and quickly do the flight school again just to see if it's fixed in the latest build.

I just created a terran pilot (the top one in the list, can't remember the name) and did the flight school training. I got the flight school achievement fine. Either there's a problem with my other game where I started as a Humble Merchant, or the issue was recently fixed?

If you haven't addressed it at all, let me know and I'll upload one of my save games somewhere for you to have a look at.

I think the problem is the inability to get the achievements retroactively for the current game: if you have completed them before the build 8, you have lost them. With the exception of those that make use of a counter, as Liberator (claim ten ships): although I had already captured dozens of ships, I got the achievement only to the first capture performed with the build 8. The same goes with Maze (build a complex with five factories).

AFAIK the problem with the achievements was a Steam error, not a game bug and it was fixed by Steam shortly before build 8 came out. Since you can use SETA to decrease your ranks, only the campaign achievements should really be lost in your game if you have already played through the campaigns.

Another question: When playing TC on Windows, I never noticed a black Phoenix. Now on Linux every Teladi Phoenix in my game is painted black. Is this a bug or just a funny oddity?

I tried Build 9 and it works great.
The load times on sector change in TC are now reduced to what they used to be in Reunion.
And although I'm using nvidia driver (319.12 on GTX 460) I had some short 1-2 second game freezes after entering a sector and when rotating the view or when new ships come into view. With Build 9 this is barely noticable any more.

But what I noticed is that now I get lots of messages like

Code: Select all

#-48440(2032)[081c22]2001.FindShip Undefined function 0(0).GetID called!

Thanks for the work that went into Build 9 :) It works great. No more long loading times. I've been having a hard time finding bugs at this point. Everything works exactly as it does on Windows. The only thing I can think of pointing out is probably the most obvious and is very minor but the lack of a Linux icon for the launcher. So far X3 Terran Conflict is the only game I own without a Linux icon.
