I am using version 2.5 = any idea?
Thank you
Go to the coord in kingdoms end as in the post just above, then drop an satellite, there are a couple of rocks there, target and destroy them, then send the frieghters in to pick up rocks once they reach the satellite and bam they will collect Nividium!
I am trying to figure out how to adjust the coordinates in the local chart; no clue as how to do that... also what kind of satellites? There are 2 types in the game. I have used Mobile Drilling System to break up the rocks.. since the Mosquito missiles in the #1 posting won't blow up the asteroids since I followed the instruction.

I need to figure out how to change the coordinates to 0,0,15 (is the 15 mean kilometers?)
Do you have a link on how to operate the coordinates by using the NUM pad?

Many thanks!

I've read through the thread here, and as there is a bit of conflicting recommendations I'd like a little summary.

My goal would be to have 10-20 full time miners transporting the Niv to a TL then docking that TL and transferring the Niv to hulls to sell.

Is it just easier to break the stuff myself then leave and start collecting with my TS (adding more as I get funds) or can I do this without having the break the roid apart and just outfit the gathers with a full mining complement of extensions (mineral scanner, Mining

***********************

1) Do I *have* to break up the roid with Niv first? or can I instead just send a TS (or more later) with a full mining outfit (Mineral Scanner, Ore Collector, Mobile Drill)

I'm not sure right now what roids I've broken on accident or not, so if I can locate a Full roid with Nividium and I haven't broken it up can I tell the TS's to mine from a specific roid? or if there is only one in the local area will they chose that one to mine from?

Anyway thanks for the help. This is my 2nd time playing the game and I'm leaning stuff all the time still (to me that means I'll be enjoying the game for a long time to come)

Niv mining in KE

Post by Bill Huntington »

The Niv mining in Kingdom's End is very easy. Go to coordinates, find four small Niv asteroids, use any laser, even an IRE to break the small asteroids. Gather a bit, start a dedicated ore gatherer with the Gather Rocks command, then another. Leave the sector very quietly, without using your jump drive or transporter. When you have left, start your 20 TS gathering in that spot. Just have them gather, then have a nearby TL transport the Niv to itself, and take it to the KE shipyard, transfer it to a Dolphin, and sell it. Don't come back to the sector, as that can and probably would stop Niv mining.

Niv mining in several other sectors is harder, but can be done. Check the threads, or ask about it when you are ready for that one.

Niv mining is the most lucrative activity in TC.

I don't know if this is viable anymore... I was doing this trick to try and rebuild quickly after a slight case of "too many downloads caused all my saves to violently explode" and the Niv never respawned.

I broke the four roids, sent in a mercury, which collected a few units then suddenly stopped. I popped back in, found two UNBROKEN roids where the four broken ones had been, destroyed these, then left.

I got up to only 23 units before it stopped again, now there is no Niv, broken or otherwise at that coordinate.

While its possible one of the scripts I have running may interfere, I can't imagine why (None deal with the spawning of asteroids.)

No more Niv

Post by Bill Huntington »

It sounds like you did two or three things very wrong. When you mine Nividium, you want to keep the feature active that regenerates the Niv. So you have everything in place before you start. Once started, you do not transport anything or jump yourself or any other ship into or out of the sector. The first sign that something is wrong is when the loose rocks amalgamate. This means that broken rocks usually gather into bigger rocks, usually 3 smaller rocks. And the regeneration feature is dead. So you can only collect the rocks that are there. After you leave, you can jump non-player ships in or out and transport between ships, but only after you are gone.

You cannot go back. Occasionally you can get away with it, but it can cause the problem also.

Right, two problems with your supposition about my problems, the first is I don't think my passing through the sector permanently disables the regeneration, its certainly been mentioned no where else, and would seem a bit odd.

The second is, quite simply put, I didn't go back till the ship was already failing to gather Niv. It had already glitched before I tried going back, and there were no intermediate visits.

And yes, I warped out of the sector both times after breaking up the rock, before having the transport gather, which it did... until it collected it all.

Being IS after the collecting starts does break the respawn. But you say you were not? Having said that leaving the debris field alone for too long can break the respawn too.

Basically the simplest way to do it is:
1) Break rocks
2) Drop satellite in the middle of the field
3) Jump out
4) Order transport in to collect the rocks

Then just stay out the sector for as long as you want to collect Nividium. I can confirm this still works in 2.5 - I'm doing it now. Three Mammoth loads from a small cluster of rocks so far...

Does this work with TC 2.1 too? Don't want to patch to 2.5 because of the boarding-changes.

I first tried this little trick with the Prospektor-Script by lucike, but the rocks wouldn't respawn.

Depends how often you're prepared to micromanage them, but apparently the basic TSs are the most cost-effective.

From page 2:

I now have a fleet of 10 orcas collecting nvidium, it takes a long time to fill up but ultimately it saves me having to buy and outfit freighters every few hours.

But why sell the ship collecting the Nividium? The most cost effective way to do it is to use TL/TS ships (fully kitted out) to collect, then dock at the shipyard, buy a basic freighter without cargo expansions or anything and fill it/them up before selling them. Otherwise you lose half the value of the ore collector, special command and so on. Personally I use about 10 TS ships and a TL with a transporter device. Every now and then I move Nividium to the TL, when it is full I dock at a shipyard, offload the Nividium, and then fly it back to join its brethren. Also worth noting that selling TLs full of the stuff is far less cost effective than selling TS ships. IIRC Mammoth = 450cr/cargo unit, Mercury = 60cr/cargo unit.l

NB: to be strictly accurate then it is most cost effective to buy cargo bay upgrades until the cost of each unit of expansion is equal to cost of the ship divided by cargo space. Haven't done the math on this - so not sure if the first few upgrades are more expensive than this.

You can give a TL the collect rocks command?

You can give a TL collect rocks command - provided it has the right equipment (ore collector, special command s/ware).

As for general mining - try the guide in the stickies. It is for X3:R, but nothing has changed.
