Only the INSANE would use this method to apply patched content to distribution servers...shrikebtr wrote:That gives them all afternoon to run a hash and get it on some content servers before flipping the switch and heading home.

As I said in my previous post, what happened with other patches is irrelevant. Egosoft have stated that this patch is incompatible with the steam version. Given that statement, which I'm sure they wouldn't give if they didn't have good reason to do so, a dim view will be taken of anyone who suggests that such advice should be ignored.shrikebtr wrote:Yes, it can, as past history has shown.
If, having read and understood Egosoft's statement of incompatibility, you personally wish to ignore that, then as I said - be my guest. I'm merely asking that you don't suggest that other people try it, regardless of your own personal experience.
There's your problem. I happen to work in a tech support area myself, and in my experience, people without direct knowledge invariably underestimate the work involved in any tech support issue.I can't imagine what is so complicated, especially since a game like X3:TC is so far from being integrated with Steam.

Eladan I will bet you 2 million credits that they don't get the patch up to next week..... And only because we will be bitching to them to get it up.
I know of one other game on steam that has had a patch for 1 year, and they have not relaased it yet...... Seems when a game is not so popular anymore Steam ignores it.

I obviously have no knowledge of Valve's business practices, so I can't comment on their patching policy. I suggest that if you have an issue with them, you'll get more result (or at the very least, not lessMalkuth74 wrote:Eladan I will bet you 2 million credits that they don't get the patch up to next week..... My comments earlier are more about the fact that regardless of their history, it was highly unrealistic to expect the patch to be available in the time frame thus allowed.

LoL Eladan...just to let you know...your total post today (I've actually been able to reach you and seen like 6-7 of your replies) well this is actually 6-7 times more than a month for the mod on steam...All they do is lock thread and don't reply PMseladan wrote:I obviously have no knowledge of Valve's business practices, so I can't comment on their patching policy. thing is, valve have to get the stuff from egosoft, and check that it works
then they have to do whatever they do to integrate it with the steam client
then they have to do whatever they have to do so the changes they just made won't upset TAGES
then they have to test that the changes they've made don't break the game
then they have to distribute the patch to their worldwide mirrors
only then can they release the patch
and yes, there will also be more "avoidable" delays - valve have quite a "small company" vibe even these days, and you get the feeling if Joe In Charge Of Third Party Games (N-Z) isn't at his desk, then it won't be picked up by Fred (A-M). Bureaucracy is not their stong point (which is a mixed curse)
Maybe egosoft could have coordinated with steam and gone for simultaneous release. But that wouldn't have made the steam patch faster, it would have made the DVD patch slower. I see no reason they should suffer just because I do
At least with egosoft's semi-independance-from-publishers*, they can at least bring out their own patches. With some games, this would be the stage where the developers submit the patch to the publisher and they sit on it for a few months
*Obviously they need publishers to sell their games, but they're not owned by one, and they don't have exclusive worldwide deals with one

Thanks Egosoft. A nice early Christmas present and worth the wait. TBH though, I'm still slogging along in my game and other than the Patrol mission problems (problems making myself millions of credits????
) I have yet to find a game breaking bug. Case in point:
story. LOL.
In my estimation I could play for weeks more before needing this patch, however since it has many useful features I will d/l tomorrow, possibly making this version of X3 close to a 10 in terms of enjoyability.

[Edit] On second thought seeing posts of decreased mission payouts, I may hold off for a few.

Fixed? I completed this mission. I got shot at but thought it was part of theVassenego wrote: Terran Plot, Sector M148 mission fixed

You should really consider re-reading what I wrote. I will say again:eladan wrote:As I said in my previous post, what happened with other patches is irrelevant. Past precedent made a valid case for considering an attempt at a manual patch, hence my expressed curiosity. Someone has already tried this, it didn't work, game over.
All I am saying is that despite your self-righteous attitude, there were valid reasons to think it might work again. This is PC gaming afterall, people have a tendency to tinker. What I don't understand is your insistence that we not even mention such a thing could happen, or why you jumped down my throat for even bringing it up. It isn't like this is a game that people already are modifying at every level.
Anyway, I gave it a shot for giggles, and no it most definitely does not work. Seems like whatever Tages needs to do to tell itself it is validated wont take. *sigh* so short of wacky Tages tricks, we wait for Valve.

With reasoning like that, how could I possibly contradict you! Maybe you can explain to me how Valve manages their patch distribution, so all of us Steam users can sit back and be indefinitely placated.RRRoamer wrote:Only the INSANE would use this method to apply patched content to distribution servers...shrikebtr wrote:That gives them all afternoon to run a hash and get it on some content servers before flipping the switch and heading home.

thing is that egosoft cursed us with steam so we are pretty much f***ed and there is nothing we can do.
i DO blame egosoft for letting Steam handle its distribution to the americas, by the time it was launched i did not have any other choice.
is there a way to ask money back so i can buy the retail version?
thanks

Fine - consider it quietly, to yourself, but I repeat - when Egosoft has already said that the patch is not compatible with the steam version, please don't suggest that the information could be incorrect publicly on the forum, regardless about your personal experiences or beliefs. Egosoft wouldn't make the statement unless they were of the opinion that problems could be caused by application of the patch to the steam version. Any argument on this point is unhelpful, so can we please make this the last word on it.shrikebtr wrote:You should really consider re-reading what I wrote. I will say again:

I can recall numerous posts prior to release begging Egosoft to release it on steam. I very much doubt that the lack of a North American release has anything to do with the steam release anyway.palm911 wrote:thing is that egosoft cursed us with steam so we are pretty much f***ed and there is nothing we can do.

May I have a question regarding the plot missions? I have finshed the first missions of the Terran campaign as well as the first mission of the Final Fury and for the hub I am about to bring some materials. Will I be able to continue these campaigns after the patch?
And one more question about the Python. I can see that the hull was fixed but how about the ability to mount flaks? Can it mount them now or not? If not, than my favorite M2 from Reunion has a real disadvantage
