I didn't know that. I'm still stuck on an old CRT TV, so I didn't know about that. If I'm not mistaken though, the DVD player also has to support PAL, and I think many of them still don't. Then there's the fact that most DVD players are still region-restricted, and many PAL-encoded DVDs are probably not region-free.

It's a lot easier just to watch PAL DVDs on a computer (although it may require changing the DVD's region).

X3-TC Rolling demo mentioned in newsletter

Post by Yellowjack »

The latest Newsletter said that there would be a X3TC rolling demo/benchmark out soon. Good News. :)

However, I just tried to load the X3 Reunion demo in my Vista64 system and I couldn't run it due to unsigned drivers from that unmentionable copy protection system that Reunion used to have. (Why there is copy protection in the demo but no longer the game is diabologic).

Can we have some assurance that the TC rolling demo/benchmark will not have a similar problem? :?

I found the Reunion benchmark very useful and shows results from an original 17FPS to 128FPS with my current outfit.

As an aside the Newsletter also stated that TC could not run in more than 2GB of memory. I think this is a terminlogical inexactitude. What's wrong with a boot.ini 3GB switch (or bcedit for Vista users) and setting the large address space aware bits in the exe?

P.S. IF anyone knows a work around for the Reunion demo and V64 I would love to hear about it.

So I'll move this into the newsletter thread when I'm done typing...

Anyway, if you can explain why you think Egosoft would use any sort of program which is incompatible with Vista 64 on a game released in 2 days' time, I'd love to hear it. The X3:R demo predated Vista 64 and therefore it isn't too surprising it doesn't work with it.

Newsletter doesn't seem to be correct about the game unlocking...

A Valve employee responded to my question about when the game will unlock, looks like late Friday or early Saturday for Steam people :(

My question:

Thanks for the response. Now that it is pre-loaded, I have one more question...

The latest newsletter from Egosoft said the Steam version of Terran Conflict would unlock as soon as UK stores could start selling, which should be early Friday morning. The Steam store countdown timer, though, seems to indicate it will unlock very late Friday night. Can you clarify when it should actually unlock? Thanks!
Their answer:

There does seem to be a little conflict. I would go by the countdown in the Steam store as to when it will be available. The countdown does put it about 8pm EST here in the US, which would make it early Saturday morning in the UK. I'm not sure about the press release but our countdown speaks to what we go by.

What?
Steam uses the Digital information. You don't need any (crude?) oil products for it.

Rollng demo

Post by Yellowjack »

It is not that the rolling demo won't work with V64 it's because the Star Force drivers can't be loaded as they are unsigned. The question remains "Why were those drivers in the rolling demo to start with?" The rolling demo was just a download not a purchased product. The second issue is "Why are they still there?". I did a fresh download of the Reunion Rolling demo only two days ago.

As I said, I hope the same diabologic doesn't continue with the TC demo.

Hmm, well that puts it about 5 pm on Friday ~ Seattle time. Dang! I was planning on taking the day off. Oh well, as long as I can get it running by the evening (please) ...

Pre-load is complete. Downloaded and printed the manual. Going to sit down and read through that this evening. I started a new vanilla game of X3 Reunion about a week and a half ago - now I can't even get myself to play it. While playing, and building my empire, I'm thinking "what the heck am I doing?"

Hope you all have your supply list sorted for the weekend.

Spacefuel - check
Frozen pizza and snacks - check
Pepsi - to go with the spacefuel - check
Dog and cat bowl's loaded with 3 days worth of food - check
Wife and kids packed for a weekend getaway at grandma's - check
Spaceweed - check
Phones set on "do not disturb" - check
NoDoze - check

think I'm about ready ... BRING IT!

Quick question on patch 1.2, We know it's due out this week which I presume means Friday but can we just have a little confirmation on that please because if the patch is being released Friday morning no problem but if it's Friday night then it's not really worth anyone starting to play until then but if you wait all day ignoring the game waiting for the patch only for it not to be released at all then it's going to be very annoying to find I held off playing all day for nothing -I work Sunday-Thursday see and Friday is the first day of my weekend so to speak :)

There are loads of post floating around this forum about a company called Gogamers (or something like that) that are selling the game to the US for $40, see if you can find one :)

At risk of sounding like a nitpick, will it be realeased on the 17th at the Dateline, GMT, or in the USA on Steam?

This is important to me because, due to the fact that Friday nights are the only time I have free, living in Australia and being up to 18 hours or so ahead of the US, if it is released at Greenwich or US time, I'll have to wait another week to play it. Which may actually kill me!

Sorry if this has been covered (I have looked), but I've asked the question on Steam as well and nobody seems to know.

I think that mrsack did a bit of this research and provided a response from a Steam employee, about 9 posts above yours ...

As per that post, it looks like it will most likely be unlocked at about 8pm EST.
But realistically, it looks like nobody really knows for sure.

If you look on the steam page it tells you how long till it's unlocked.. I live in Sydney and it's got 1 day and 21 hours for me.. :( so Saturday for us around 9, 10 am, it's to bad Steam doesn't unlock by localisation of the user :(

Thanks guys,

I actually found the timer after posting, sorry.

A real pity about localisations. Really and truly, they should advertise the time at the international dateline, that way, nobody is disappointed and more than a few are pleasantly surprised.....

I pre-loaded using Steam. Since my gaming rig is also my development machine at work... download took about 10 mins or so! :D

Can't wait for friday! I'll probably go into work early to sneak in a few hours of work before normal humans come in to work :P

1. We don't know, but it's not available through retail stores.
2. What is "wrong" with Steam, seriously? I bought my X2TT and X3R and my X3TC through it. No problems so far.

You can always buy it from gogame or Egosoft shop

Edit: Hours? I would sneak in few DAYS before normal human beings ;)
