One thing I wonder about the highways thing.. Personally I use SETA almost constantly. I dock to a station and buy some meat, I undock and target the nearest bakery and I immediately hit SETA. Travelling from place to place without it would just be so slow and tedious.
So it's fine that we can travel from sector to sector on highways, but will travelling within a sector be fast too? Perhaps ships are faster now? Or is the whole sector laid it with little roads or something?
As for the one ship thing, I am perfectly happy with that, and I think it might have been misunderstood by some people. I think they have more than adequately explained it with this quote:
The player will have only ONE ship to fly himself. But this one ship is super cool. You can move around inside, transport and talk to NPCs aboard etc. But you also can still own and control drones and capital ships. Drones can even be controlled in first person, so in reality you still have lots of ships to steer from cocpit view. The only difference is that this is done using a virtual reality system
It might be good. You tell your copilot what to do while you do mining with drones or something. It looks like you won't be needing to dock to a station to trade wares. Maybe containers with ware can be launched from and to station ( with a nice animation ). I'm wondering if the game will start with just you and copilot and you can get crew as you improve your ship, or you start off with some crew but the female copilot is the most dominant crew member.

Boy, wouldn't that get old quick.

Indications are that you and the "unexpected female companion" leave the X-universe together and the crew comes later. Or so I believe.
I'm still holding out for Betty. Everyone else, that would be unexpected, is either dead, at least from old age anyway, or an alien.
Except, perhaps, the little Argon girl, Susie? All grow'd up. hmm.
The no docking for trading my just mean the AI handles it for you. You can't fly cargo ships so it may be NPC TSs (or the equivalent of) until you've your own fleet under AI control.
And unexpected human companion (can't remember where, but it has been said she's human) doesn't mean we've heard of her! There's a few hundred years passed since we were last in the universe...

[Edit] Sorry - just checked. Confirmed as a person ("Two people alone against the galaxy") not a human. Still means it's not a computer, but could be a Boron Princess
Struggling to find something from the forums - Google it!!!

It'll have to look sexy if it isn't AI. Considering the route XR is taking now with all the streamlining, epicness and stuff it WILL be sexy or nothing. Borons aren't my (and dare I say anyone's) type.

You were right before, the German version of the first X News specifically stated it would be "two humans against the galaxy".
The New Game will be sold on Impulse and steam right? I hate discs, I hate having to have discs. I am not too fond of steam for their incredible violations of my privacy, but Impulse is cool, been buying their stuff for about 5 or 6 years now.
There are only two things in life that matter, and I have them both. They're not what you might think, and once you learn that you'll be much happier.

I certainly hope not!!!!!!!!!
I want physical media - simple as that. On top of that, as I do not own a credit card, I am NOT able to buy the game on-line. I also do not want to have to use a high-speed internet account to download gigabytes of game content - and do this all again when I want to re-install the game (because of a computer crash, motherboard-update and thus re-install Windows etc.).
No - I want a booklet, maybe a poster, a nice box and a couple of DVD's - AND I want to buy the game in my favourite game store.
Very limited to buying retail these days as most places just sell a few pc titles and then 95% of the store is for console games.
Nowt wrong with steam tho. I miss the old boxed days but tbh i buy things on steam and kinda glad i dont have a disc and box adding to the clutter of my collection as kinda sick of boxes and discs all over and getting lost or damaged.
So, new interview with the CEO again and more confirmation...yes, ONE ship forever, and drones are a big thing, drones? You get to pilot drones from the cockpit of your own ship but never set foot in another real ship? You CAN step out of your ship on stations and talk to npcs, and you must have npcs to command any other ships you own. Sounds like Ego has gone over to the Empire builders side and made us all into little Napoleons or Hitlers. Theres no place left for the regular mercenary pilot or pirate who captures and flys ships of all kinds anymore, hope the modders can make something of this because to me,its going to be terrible, not sure it'll be worth buying right away, maybe off the bargain bin.
How can it be?
We have known about XR being on the home run to release since the beginning of the year! Yet I have read this page containing contributions from a few of the sites most knowledgeable contributors a discussion on, where we MIGHT be able to buy the xxxxxx game from, I JUST CANNOT BELIEVE IT!
This game is supposedly due for release in three months and the idiots at Deep Silver are treating this as a console release, treating this site, the best potential customers like mushrooms? Any other game up for brelease would have been played and reviewed by the press by now but we do not even know what PC spec.s we can play it on.
GOD please deliver us from this insanity because it does not look like Egosoft is going to!
The BANISHED RETURNS.
HEALTH WARNING! Steam Damages Freedom Of Speech!
Congratulations Egosoft on increasing memory usage from 2 to 3 Gb.
Bin playing X too long when Egosoft refuses to sell you their latest game?
The only steam I want is in my kettle! STEAM=GAME OVER.

Only that Space Hitler would fly a proper flagship, we don't even get that and are stuck with some tiny outdated ship that is killed by the first lucky PPC salvo. How are Empire builders supposed to make large scale fleet combat like that? Instead they seem to focus on the story, that one part they always failed miserably at and which no one ever liked nor wanted.
But if i remember correctly, the ship that we will be flying gets upgraded as we go along. i wouldnt be suprised if the ship we start off in either a cross between and M3+ and a small TS that would eventually end up around the lvl of an m6+ or even and M7+

But - but this is good! It sounds like it's functionally the same as a normal X game with the exceptions that you probably have to park your flagship somewhere safe, and if the ship you're flying gets destroyed, you don't have to reload and wait 100 years for it to do so - you just lose the ship. Which is a good thing in my opinion.
Of course, capital ship drones would be a mite bizarre, so I don't know what Ego has planned there. Bernd did say there was still some way to own and control them, albeit not directly.
I'm just hoping that each of the "TRADE FIGHT BUILD THINK" are given equal weight in the new game as it did tend to skew too much towards FIGHT by the time we got to X3...
