Tara Palmer-Tomkinson has been fond dead in her flat. Most wont know her, but she was an IT girl back in the 90's, a name that most in the UK will know of if they were around at that time.
R.I.P. Tara
Also Alan Simpson has died, another one that most wont know, but he was one of the writers of Steptoe and son back in the day.

The Tara thing in the U.K. press at the moment is a tad silly. Yes it's sad she died so young, but there's no mystery, she was a pretty heavy drug addict, drug addicts die younger, that's a known fact, she was just a famous/socialite one.
Were she poor there'd be no attempt to find other ways to explain her death other than to say it was health deterioration caused by years of heavy drugs and drink abuse.

On the other hand, I've seen him die in 97% of the films he's been in, so I guess I am just waiting for him to pop up again.
Going to have to watch True Lies again "A pair of titties that'll make you sit up and beg for buttermilk".

Pretty much everyone on here has jumped to "Hudson from Aliens" as the role they remember him for best (me too) but I've yet to see this one in the headline of any article reflecting upon him.
They usually seem to go with "Apollo 13 / Titanic actor . . . " the latter being especially bizarre as I had to look it up to see what role he played . . . . an incredibly minor one. It could be a reflection of the sci-fi cult nature of this forum but I have seen him referred to a "True Lies actor . . . " arguably an even more niche cult film. Have the media just forgotten Aliens?
Edit: Ha! after I wrote this I went back and looked. . . . TWO of the outlets I previously saw have changed their headlines to add Aliens. So yeah it looks like they did forget.

And here it is, the Alien Theory Bill Paxton tribute Video, as good as I suspected it would be video linky
I had no idea he was such a wide ranging actor, or that he was in so many of my favorite films.

He's been killed by a Terminator, an Alien, and a Predator.berth wrote:He appeared in quite a few James Cameron movies, including the original Terminator, wherein he supplies one of that movie's most used quotes.
Not many actors can say that. (Lance Henrikson I guess. Did the queen alien 'kill' Bishop? Or was it the crash?)
Appeared in 4 films with Michael Bhein
Appeared in 3 films with Schwarzenegger
The less said about Thunderbirds the better

I am a bit late but I would like you taking notice of the death of Tzvetan Todorov on February 7, 2017. He was born in Bulgaria (March 1, 1939), in the middle of the 60's he emigrated to France where he published and lived for the rest of his life as a professor for litterature, philosophy and semiotics.
With one of his books he had and has an enormous impact on the litterature of the 20th century, litterature meaning novels, movies, even computer games! It was his 1970-study about "The Fantastic" (this one: http://www.cornellpress.cornell.edu/boo ... son_id=934) that opened a very new perspective on several litterary sub-genres. The study was instantly and widely accepted.
Quote from wikipedia: "Todorov defines the fantastic as being any event that happens in our world that seems to be supernatural. Upon the occurrence of the event, we must decide if the event was an illusion or whether it is real and has actually taken place."
The magic is in the words "we must decide". If the author make things clear - the supernatural is a dream, e.g. - we cannot speak about "The Fantastic". But we must reconsider a story when there is NO solution of the riddle: did it really happen or not ?
"We" stay in uncertainity, "we" cannot find easy answers, "we" as 'readers' have to decide by ourselves.
That was a new approach and led not only to a new interpretation of fantastic litterature but also to new writing-techniques in SciFi-stories and Computer Games. We can say that the "immersion" of actual games partially has its roots in Todorov's work. As long as we play "We" accept the reality of the game as real - and not as an illusion.
So thank you Tzvetan Todorov for having given us the basics for creating new realities - without escaping the reality at all.
