Well it can be seen as that, yes. However I was trying to emphasize that you would get through everything a lot quicker with many people, and that replayability/game length is strongly affected by your friends' ability/will to play the game again.

Not if the prices of everything except trade wares and rewards will be doubled.

I believe that MMO like PvP/PvE MP for X is not needed. But personally I would apreciate a simple co-op mode, where you just invite, example your brother, to your universe, show him things, go pirate hunt with him, do a story mission or two, maybe trade a little together, then he leaves and you can continue SP like you did before.

However I understand why Ego can´t do this right now.

Still, I´ve heard something about Ego adding MP in X, just not in Rebirth but a little bit later.

The biggest concern I have with cooperative is that the more people you have the less time it takes to do what you want to do. "Many hands make light work" is usually the death of these sorts of games. And even if you keep playing, people will get bored with a single game, some people may stop being able to play, etc.

X games last a *long* time. The longest cooperative non-mmo mulitplayer games I know of are the ones run by the guys over at openttdcoop, and they rarely last for more than a week from what ive seen. How are you going to convince your friends to play another game of Multi-X after doing everything there is to do after the first one? There are no elements in any current X game that would offer replayability to a group of people beyond "lets go kill the split this time". It will require some serious thinking on egosoft's part to adjust the game to this, as well as a serious investment to cater for what will be rather small community of players.
Again, guys X games will NEVER fit intro a common grief MMO style, just like EVE and WOW are....

Do you know how GW2 style MMO works? a big world, no PVP allowed, dinamic events with AI taking over and attacking places, so the world changes, with a brillant and easy cooperative system, also the players still have its own "singleplayer history", but its done in instances rather in the real world.

In a universe like that, there will be no problems for player stations either.

That MMO style its perfect for X universe.

Still, right now, X games does not need to be MMO, what X Games need is allow invite other people to play cooperative in your universe.

The problem with player stations is the sheer number of them, combined with the additional load of the ai ships supporting them, and the way that they would obliterate the economy.

And how would no pvp work? Make every stray bullet magically do no damage?

I have Always Dreamed of a small scale multiplayer much like a minecraft server that can progress and evolve over time, and when you get bored just start again and go down a different route.
