going into bars to get missions got as old as landing on stations to read the bbs. great when starting out, but a real pain after 1000 hours at the keyboard.

Pictures But No Action!

Post by David Howland »

I am getting very worried about WHAT Egosoft are releasing.
Some pretty pictures, one short video and little info. about action or game mechanics? The one action related snippet they have let slip, that you will be able to own capital ships but not fly them, went down like the proverbial lead balloon.
So we have pictures and little action, now what produces great graphics but made Medal of Honour feel like you were fighting in your own front parlour? What platform has Egosoft admitted this game is to be released on? Yes a Console! The platform that makes fantastic graphics and action concepts seem like they are taking place in rooms and tunnels. I hope I am wrong, I hope that I have a false impression that XR is going to be a game of great graphics but action dummed down for console compatability.
There also is the computer specifications question, much repeated but fobbed off with the explanation this is never known until release, well if they are confident this game will run on a console they should have a vague idea what level of computer will run it! Does Egosoft really plan to release this game without giving X fans with money the chance to buy the right rig? That would seem to me, the way to ensure they release a flop, of course all these doubts could be my naivity, I really hope they are!
The BANISHED RETURNS.
HEALTH WARNING! Steam Damages Freedom Of Speech!
Congratulations Egosoft on increasing memory usage from 2 to 3 Gb.
Bin playing X too long when Egosoft refuses to sell you their latest game?
The only steam I want is in my kettle! STEAM=GAME OVER.

There are games that feature both space and planet gameplay before. Battecruise Millenium and its later successor Universal at War featured both space and planetside combat (both flying and on foot soldier). Very few people can come to term and play them though, they probably win the award of most confusing games in history. Then recently there is The Tomorrow War, it's crap in most possible way, but if you're into planet interaction than it's a man's wet dream come true with the ability of re-entry and fly on a planet surface, and the process is done in real time gameplay (not cutscene transition). Here is a clip of the process:

Speaking of Space and Planet gameplay, you forgot the quasi grand daddy of them all: Wing Commander 3. WC3 features both space combat and atmospheric combat.

Just a thing : can't beleive it's comming.
Just bought a hotas warhog to replace the saitek X52 and i am waiting rebirth as well :)
For me X series are the best series game ever done with Freespace 1 & 2.
Eve Online had a good way but to much based on pvp and sooo time chronophage :) X3 has all the advantages .. you have few time ? Not a problem you can play it casually .. you have big times .. its so deep that its very hard to finish all ways in the game.; Its for me the major success of the serie. When you have a familly and work to deal and love Sci-fi X3 is the really game to play.
Thanks Egosoft for all theses years of pleasure and i really hope its just a new start and thanks for all the community for all the helps, mods and all witch helped a lot of players like me who are not specialists in informatic, just users and try to survive in this large universe :)

Has anyone given thought to the possibility that the female ally is not our copilot or sidekick, but our boss or the captain of the ship we're in? That the player is the one taking orders? It would provide an excellent vehicle to introduce the player to the new game mechanics. Instead of being the alpha player, you start out just like the countless other NPC characters, someone that gets put into a position and is commanded. For example, assuming we'll be able to hire pilots to do our trading, perhaps at some point the player buys and sells what they are told to with the female ally's money and receives a salary.

As the plot progresses, the player would eventually work through all the different roles, and maybe in some big final battle the commander of the ship dies and the player takes over, becoming the alpha player. While this would force you to play through the plot, it serves as an easy, gradual, and fun introduction to the game universe. It wouldn't require you to have to build up funds, or products, or ships. You get a taste of everything, learn how to interact with the universe, and then are thrown into the sandbox where the game really begins. Instead of plots adding life to the universe in order to change it, the plot introduces you to the life of the universe and how to change it. The plot only serves as the opening credits, the "previously on..." part.

At least, that's the hopeful vibe I'm getting from what they are saying.

And where are people coming up with the idea that X Rebirth will be on a console? What I remember reading is, at the least, it will not be available for consoles at this time, and most likely a flat out "no" to a console release.
Translated from Krawall.de
Krawall.de: What you've also revised, are the user interface and the game started. This should all be easily accessible. To have your fans like to worry that their "trims to mass market," the game or - Oh God! - Appears even for console?
Bernd Lehahn: No, it does not console. There is simply less complicated, not less complex. But I can not expect everyone to behave as the hardcore fans sit down and studied first time dozens of pages in the manual. You should play a game and not have to learn.
Although, to be honest, this game could make great use of the WiiU remote as a personal data pad, all the information you need literally at your fingertips.

I think the ally is just someone who sits next to you or somit and opens up things as the cockpit is supposably where all the menus or whatever you call em now are, so she probably would be involved in some way i think. Tho im hoping for a 3d model in hopes of some princess leia outfit mods to apply.

Wonder if she has a voice or not. Hope its better than Betty.

Btw, i wonder if we start off as a terran and kinda start off like in x-btf. Maybe not as in testing a new drive but a new ship and maybe starting in sol and expanding out somehow with them new fast travel things to new places. And we have to rediscover the old races but also new ones as they say the universe has changed and so their might be a new discovery part of gameplay to find as i said the argon and such.

Doubtful, I wish I can be as hopeful as you are. But the vibe I'm getting is we gonna see another hyber-active supposed-to-be-hot chick like a third-rate bollywood who are totally devoid of chemistry. . In my experience space sim games with a male/female pairing have been mostly historically bad, especially (this gonna cause some rage) one that comes from an European developer. Saiya and Julian from X, the pair from Darkstar One (which I forgot name) ...etc...

At least I hope it's something like Trend and Junko in Freelancer, the relationship are mostly proffessional and your side kick is mature and competent, not just a trophy with a ganster attitude, deliver a few cool line here and then and fail flat.

Will be sad if stations develop in a "Tree" fashion where building one module opens up more modules to build. I like to set up my logistics in game and be able to build anything from the start either by providing the materials or buying them.
Anyone else smell DLC factory modules?
Steam Bath recreation module? :D

As for planets... X games have those? I hardly noticed... :o

My only question is, with the multi-threading in the new engine, should I be saving up for a dual-cpu motherboard? I would /love/ to finally have a game that can take advantage of 24 threads. ;) Or are we still going to be in the realm of the single cpu world. ?

Everything I have read says that it is a PC only release, they would like to see it on MAC as well but right now it is only a PC release...

The HOTAS Warthog + X:R has massive potential for quality gaming with zero cost in performance.

Please, please tell me that since you built a WHOLE NEW ENGINE, you put MULTIPLAYER SUPPORT in it? Please?

Some of us have friends that we routinely play games with in coop and competitive mode. My best friend and I loved sci-fi games back when there were some actually out there, so we would have an absolute blast playing this together.

Without Mp though ... neither of us is really into single-player games anymore. Games are much more fun when shared with friends.

In fact, we've gotten into the habit of buying games for each other to save time - he bought me MW2 so we could play it together, I bought him Left 4 Dead, etc. So if you have multiplayer, I can guarantee you two sales right now.

Thanks Yu. Then the answer to whether I'll be buying a copy of X-Rebirth and surprising my friend with one, plus directions on how to connect to me for multiplayer is also Sadly: No.

there's a multiplayer / mmo faq around, but basically it's really not worth the effort to do... imagine syncing the entire universe Oo

if x were more like freelancer or eve where you only really sync with your own sector (+ some meta information) then yeah.
Irrational factors are clearly at work.

I have no problem with DLC, as long as they go the Fallout 3 route: release them gradually if they want to but after the last one, slap them all on a DVD for those of us who prefer buying a disc instead of downloading. Not all of us have uncapped internet access and/or high speed. As I’m typing this, I’m downloading updates for Fallout NV and L4D2: 126 and 122 KB/s :(

okay, well, this game is going to be insane..but if it has the following features it will just blow my mind away.

1. Ability to land on planet stations
2. Ability to hire a crew
3. This would be really insane but the ability to walk around your ship, more likely the larger ships, in third or first person view.

So what do you guys think would be the chances of these three feature being in the game.

They said that landing on planets is not going to be in this game so I don't think they will let u land on planet stations. They have mentioned that you will be able to fly in the upper atmosphere of a planet.

There is also a "Character-driven UI and a living and breathing universe". Got this from their website www.xrebirth.com So perhaps you can walk around but this is speculation at best so don't quote me on this thing.

Even without those 3 options the game will be amazing.
Nuke 'em till they glow, then shoot 'em in the dark.
