Post by mini-MiE »

i've only just re-installed x2, after a rather long break. When i try starting the game up, it'll get through the intro-scenes, (nvideo egosoft, etc.) but when i tries loadin the menu up after the "quote", it crashes to desktop... it does the same if i try skippin the intro as well. I've installed v1.3 but that dint help, and ive tried changing the settings... but still nothin :/
so wonderin how to fix it

Any of the reasons listed on the first page of this thread are possible, but I'd say one of the more likely ones was an audio codec problem. If you have installed other games, music packages or codec packs since you last had the game on your system, this could be the reason. Make sure the official Microsoft codecs, particularly the Windows Media Player 9 one, have the highest priority and that other codecs that might interfere (e.g. the Fraunhofer one) are disabled or removed.

K... I just bought the game yesterday, installed it today. Went directly to d/l and install the patches, everything fine....Then when I go to start the game it loads up the "Loading" screen, then after about 30seconds it CTD....I tried all the suggestions at the beging of the thread, but I can't seem to find anything that works....

Here are my system specs:
Asus A7V600-x MB
AMD 2700+ XP
512meg Corsair 400mhz (1 piece)
256meg Nvidia 5200FX
IBM Deskstar 120gig 7200rpm/8meg cache
C-Media 8738 audio
NEC2500 DVD+/- R/RW Drive

I have all the latest and greatest for drivers and such...If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate them...

Thanks
Jeff

Okay...I tried running it in window mode to see if it had any effect, and it loads up until it has the nvidia logo... It then gives an error with saying the following:

AppName: X2.exe AppVer: 1.3.0.0 ModName: neaudio.ax
ModVer: 1.0.3.89 Offset: 0002f247

maybe that might help some??

Thanks
Jeff

Update: I reinstalled DX9b and it starts now...but i have a small question...should there be a mouse in the game??? I seem to be missing mine....

Im going mad with these random crashes.
The Game seems to run fine but always crashes back to the desktop after around 30-40 minutes of play.
I have just been out and bought a 480 thermaltake psu to try and resolve this and the problem is still occuring.
I have tried all the tweaks and suggestions on the site to no avail.

Can someone help?

If it's crashing after a similar amount of time, there are a couple of likely possibilities.

1) your cpu / graphics card is being overstrethed and this is the point at which it gives up

2) there is something running in the background in your system which activates every 30 minutes or so and causes a crash

I will try and turn as much off as possible to see what happens
system spec as below

thermaltake 480 psu
athlon xp2800 cpu
40 gig hd
80 gig hd
msi nvidia fx5700le 256 meg graphics
52 speed cdr/dvd combo
asrock motherboard
768 system ram

Applications that may be running in the background are....

zonealarm firewall
norton antivirus
ntlworld internet connection
motherboard monitor 5
norton password manager

zonealarm firewall
norton antivirus
ntlworld internet connection
motherboard monitor 5
norton password manager
first, tell zone alarm to STOP all internet activity, but dont disable ZA

then turn off and shut down all the others, esp norton antivirus (in my own personal experience, this is a nasty piece of software), I have nearly identical to you except, i have AVG and not norton, but ntl,ZA,motherboard mon are all shut down to play my game.

when all off, then try your game.

they should all come alive again when you reboot.

Seems I have gotten around the problem in one of three ways.

I uninstalled real player and quicktime

I also noticed that the temperatures of my mother boards were getting quite high so have installed an extra case fan and let the existing on I got with my power supply run at full speed and also sped up the psu fans.

I will play the game again troubleshoot the problem a bit to see if I can determine why it has been crashing.

:) :) :) :) :D

Great game though, glad I seem to have found the problems on my system, I advise anyone else having the problems to try the above.
I have autosave, warp tunnels and everything possible switched on and cannot get it to crash now :D

add me to the list of CTDers. running version 1.3, clean start on that version. apparently got a corrupted save when docking and saving in a sector (Rolk's Fate) during a khaak incursion. now any time i try to save, immediate CTD.

Win2K, 1.8Mhz, 500MB, GeForce Ti4200.

Atlast, after hours of bloody disessembling, re assembling..... Hit the nail on the head.... sort of.
Audio codex. Simple as that. In the end I could'nt, and cant be bothered, to find the exact one thats the problem. I installed K-lite codecs pack, full install. The wmfdist.exe solution never worked..... Come on people, its time to smile :) , Got to give it a few hours of play yet..... will update as nessessary. Hope you all dont see me in Tech Support again.... lol

Latest nvidia drivers also caused a slight stuttering (61.76). Reverted back to 51.72. Alls well.

Never had CTDs before and was blaming 1.4 when I realised that wasn't the cause which I'm 90% sure is my Outpost Firewall.

Now I know the first thing your supposed to do is disable all background tasks but I am always loathe to disable AV and Firewall. No problems until now but I discovered that I was getting a Page_Fault_In_NonPaged_Area and traced this down to my recent upgrade of Outpost to version 2.1. This causes me general problems and of course as I upgraded this just before I recently picked up patch 1.4 I was easily confused (as usual).

Disabling Firewall and disconnecting my broad band conection (natch) resulted in a stable system in general use and no more CTD in X2, well at least I haven't had any since.

Hardly a blinding observation but I bet I'm not the only one who simply won't stop such important programs running when there have been no problems before.

Samsung SyncMaster [Monitor] (17.1"vis, s/n H9NW204160, February 2003)

i found this worked

Post by tusker »

my game would continously lock up at various places, i tried reinstalling to no avail then i unistalled X2 and then manually looked in the egosoft folder and sent everything to recycle bin reinstalled programme and reloaded patches and trading scripts from the zip files and touch wood it has not crashed, locked up, returned to desktop. the programme runs faster and the graphics look better (FX5600-128) i think i must have kept reloading a corrupt file. (all other games worked ok)

i posted this below on the game freezes post this helped me

I turned down my overclocking a wee bit, from 184 to 180. The game just pushes all of your componentry to the max & if you don't have everything running perfectly it's gonna crash. I disabled my net connection via the CP & I've (knocking now...) not had 1 crash in 8 hours of near continous play. My only problems are bz sectors (cpu) & trying to take on 3 J's & 2 K's w/ my osprey....LOL...Good gaming tonite!! Wooohooo!!!!

Don't know if this will help anyone but just in case. I tried eveything on the excellent sticky list, or so I thought. And every other game I have runs fine on my system. I was convinced it was bad code from Egosoft, until I removed my CPU heat sink fan and found it coated with dust. I cleaned it up and have been running the game for 4 days solid now with no crash. My system is a year old but still quite high spec, so I think the only mistake Egosoft have made is in the machine specs required. Cos this game runs my machine to the limit where no others do yet (not surprising given the content/ gfx quality).

Now I can actually play it without crashes I can see what an excellent job the team have done. WOW nice job, awesome successor to Xtension.

Althon 3000
1 Gb OCZ ram (with plated heatsink)
ATI 9800 Pro 256 Mb
SB Live
240GB raid drives (more storage space than a Boron Dolphin)
Thermaltake climate controlled Case & 480W psu (10 fans in all)
Win XP Home
