Contains all PCMark05 & 3DMark06 values for each entry in this thread (up to page 6 so far).

Would be easier to be able to have people enter their own stuff,
but I haven't got an interactive web site set up.

The largest group with consistent settings is
1280x1024 all seting High,
14 of the 92 so far (+ 13 similar enough).

I wonder if it's worth everyone submitting an entry like that ?
Nice work there exogenesis :D, don't know if you want the gaps filled in or not mate but just in case you do I thought I'd let you know that I'm running a single 4850 (at the moment my two entries says 4870? :)
My (new) PC:-

Intel® Core™ i7-4770 processor (3.4 GHz, 8 MB cache)

Can't use a higher resolution, but I'll see what happens if I turn some more things up, perhaps that'll manage where I failed before and melt my hugely inadequate graphics card ^_^

I reckon with an AMD 6000+ X2 CPU on a 10% over clock (3.3Ghz) you could get an average frame rate of about 60 with the rest of your build.

What GPU did you have before the GTX260? I'd like to know the difference between the GTX260 and my 8800GTS as I am building a new system soon, and I want to know if it might be a better option to wait until the next generation of Nvidia GPU's come out.

Thanks mate, have fun,
Brian :)

My card still hasn't melted :( I might buy the game anyways and see exactly how unplayable it is with everything turned all the way down, I'm very surprised by the fact that the game is even running with my card being miles below the minimum reqs. Mm heres to hoping I've enough money by christmas to get something capable of doing the game justice?

iriyak, cheers, parsing this thread would be great, but I think there's too many difficulties with that.
shireknight, corrected your GPU for next update (every 2 or 3 pages OK?, or should I only update every 5th page?).
mufassa, can't go higher than 1024 ?, time for a new PC, good luck saving :)

There are plenty of GPU cards out there that will run X3TC brilliantly and are very reasonably priced (even below the price of the game itself!!)

Good luck mate,

Hey there,

Just tried the demo and it looks sweet.

I've done many tests and benchmarking is my thing... what I can see here is:

The demo (and maybe game) is CPU limited.... to test this is easy... simply do two tests, with 8xAA and 0xAA, the difference wont be large if you have a mid-range card, say a 8800GT or 4850..... this is because the GPU's are not stressed, the CPU is, even in the demo!

This would also explain why people get much lower FPS in the game, when the economy and other AI parts are activated....

For example:

I have:
3ghz Core 2 Duo
2gb DDR2
8800GTX

I get 56fps with 8xAA and maximum settings, if I turn of AA I get 58fps... no difference means the GPU was not the limiting factor.

Also I tried the very low resolution of 1280x1024 without AA, and got 61fps... again because the CPU is the limiting factor.

Now my CPU is not new, but its neither slow... a 3ghz C2Duo is still quite a fast CPU. The problem is the engine is NOT multi-threaded... it only uses 1 core.... this is seriously limiting the performance in X3-TC.

The game really needs to be multi-core, X through out its history (going back to XBTF) has been CPU limited, and this is no different now. As the game gets better, more work is needed by the CPU and 1 cpu at 3ghz simply is not enough in some situations!

Unfortunatelly patching the engine to use multipe threads is not easy or even possible, so I'm guessing the next X game will have a whole new engine which will be multi-threaded.

For anyone with an 8800GT or higher card I would recommend maxing out your details and 8xAA, it will run only 5 to 10% slower than if you run lower AA. Those with slow CPU's should try overclocking or investing in a new CPU if they love this game.

So I've made a spreadsheet of all the benchmarks done at 1280x1024 as that seems to be a pretty standard resolution for folks.

Its a shame the benchmark doesn't specify the CPU speed properly as that would help a great deal. If your listed on here incorrectly in any way please PM me and I'll change it.

Here you can compare what performs best.

As other people have said, the X series are always CPU limited.

Enjoy :)

CPU comparison, 3ghz C2Duo vs 1.86ghz C2Duo.... I downclocked my CPU back to stock and tested, same settings, same system.... only CPU slower.

1.86ghz results:

Quite a huge difference, basically this is a CPU hungry game, too bad its not multi-threaded.... however a 2core+ cpu will help as the nvidia/ati drivers are multi-threaded and will use more of the unloaded core....

My platform is ThinkPad T42p with 2GB memory which doesn't seem to meet the minimum requirements for X3:TC Instruction Manual, but tried the rolling demo anyway. Here is the result. All parameters are set disabled or minimum though T42p has 1600x1200 at the max resolution. Hmm, probably it's time to get new one.

Yes, you're right. So I manually collected out of this thread and put into Awk. 8)

Guys, the below is yet another collection of xperf data file submitted in this thread. The data is the same as in xperf data file, just put into Microsoft Excel. It is aimed for those who want to have the original one in this format. Otherwise exogenesis's one is highly recommended for further drilling down as 1. a value from GPU 3DMark06, 2. a value from CPU PCMark05 and 3. a working CPU's clock speed are taken into account. As someone mentioned, xperf data doesn't seem to include No.3.
  • Microsoft Excel Book file (xls)
    Tab Separated Value file (txt)
A definition of each column (txt)
Edit: (Sat, 3. Jan 09, 00:10 ) Currently 178 entries submitted in this thread are recorded.

Hope this helps.

PS craigr1982 kindly provided the updated version of xperf.xls! Thx, craigr1982! :D
