Jade Goody Dies...
... I find it hard to care.
Obituary on the Beeb.
Jesus the way they're talking you'd think the Queen had kicked the bucket. I'm going to be completely, shockingly un-pc and declare that I don't give a damn.
This is somebody who was essentially famous for being a shockingly ignorant, selfish pig who swanned about on reality TV showing us all how f***ing stupid some people are.
It's a sad reflection on our society that we create celebrities out of people whose entire contribution to the world is being cringingly ignorant, and give them ludicrous sums of money because they can't find East Anglia on a f***king map.
And where's the talk of her doing any good in the world? There isn't any! She didn't cure diseases or further our scientific understanding, she didn't pour money into charities and try to help the poor, no, she was shockingly ignorant on national TV! Oh my god! Instate a national day of mourning! Hell make it a public holiday where we all wonder around in fat suits claiming to not know where Essex is, and making incredibly racist remarks! It'll be a real celebration of British culture and achievement!

Oh I agree it's sad for her family and friends, but I'm pissed off that the media makes it out to be the worst thing in the history of the universe and we should all go throw ourselves off the nearest cliff because the end is nigh since Jade Goody died.Free Trade Inn wrote:Sad for her family and friends but I totaly agree with OP.

Seems like you care alot, since you opened a thread about it

Edit:
I do not consider any news media that covers this is actually valid or relevant.
I don't care if your name is the Sun or BBC, they both endulge in it.
No wonder alternative media is wining ground. with all the tripe gets reported in mainstream (even prestigious) newsmedia.

Heh. I don't give a crap about Goody, what pisses me off is her "celebrity status", which she achieved by being f***ing stupid and the media s**t storm that ensues - this is something bigger than Goody and there are other 'celebrities' who invoke the same amount of ire from me.Fresshness wrote:Tsar_of_Cows wrote:... I understand, I have essentially the same point-of-view on this. I was just kidding... real contribution to the debate is editten on prev. post.Tsar_of_Cows wrote:Heh. Completely agree with OP. Many far more accomplished people die every day without so much as a mention in the local paper - I don't see why everyone cares because a moneygrabbing, self-centred Z-list celebrity, famous for making racist remarks on national television, is dead.
Sad for the family and friends yes, but to be frank, I don't think she's a great loss to the human race.

My Dad died from cancer on the 24th of Nov last year, and nobaody gave a toss.
He worked every day of his life from 14 to 71, paying god knows how much in taxes and National Insurance, and the NHS stuck two fingers up at him and said they wouldn't pay for his £4000 a month cancer meds.
I was geniunly pleased when I heard that woman had cervical cancer, as It might render her unable to breed... then found out she had already excreted two when i was busy giving a toss about real people.

I'm sorry for your loss, my Grandfather died a little over 2 years ago. He was around during WW2, couldn't fight due to a knee injury, but worked as the head of the housing department for an area just south of London, he helped relocate people during the Blitz and helped organising the rebuilding effort after the war. As did my Grandmother who worked in the same department.gunman127 wrote:My Dad died from cancer on the 24th of Nov last year, and nobaody gave a toss.

On a scale of who helped the most people and did the most good, of my Grandfather vs Jade Goody, I'd say that given the amount of media attention given to Goody, My Grandfather deserves a state funeral and a national day of mourning >.>
I don't seriously expect that of course, but my point is that the media and the "celebrity culture" ignores the people who really contribute in favour of people who are essentially vestigial.
Edit:
Oh FFS and the PM is blabbing on about it, I can only assume in the hope that stupid people will vote for him. "courageous" my ass! And how exactly did she raise awareness of cervical cancer? By dying of it? Hopefully more reality TV stars will follow suit.

The last thing they covered was Jade goody's death. They had the priest that married her, and some random woman I've never seen before.
The random woman had sense, and clearly thought "Jade Goody? Waste of space.", but was nice about it...
The bishop said "Oh yes, yes, she was a princess who influenced the world for good. She did it in biblical proportions. She gave the world hope, in particular cancer sufferers.", and he kept mouthing platitudes like a masticating cow.
Hang on.... giving hope to cancer sufferers BY DYING!?
Whatever that bishop was on, I WANT some of it.

Really? Whatever he's on seems to have warped his perceptions of death - I wouldn't wager being able to wake up the next morning at all, let alone wake up to regret taking the damn stuffSome Strange Man wrote:Hang on.... giving hope to cancer sufferers BY DYING!?

Pretty much my opinion on the matter. Didn't like her much (what I saw of her - perfectly willing to admit she might have been witty and charming behind the scenes, although I doubt it), didn't like the celebrity culture she was part of but she didn't deserve to be dead at 27. And it was not a nice way to die at all. She faced up to it, played the game as she always had to try to get something to leave for her family and has got a lot of people thinking about the consequences of ignoring preventative medicine. RIP. It is all you can say.pjknibbs wrote:Much as we may dislike Jade and the publicity surrounding her death, can I just point out that somebody has DIED here? Oh - and can someone please shut Max Clifford up? Anyone would think he was related to her the amount of synthetic emotional outpouring he has done for the papers.

And? I feel the need to dredge up the statistics on how many people die every day. Again.pjknibbs wrote:Much as we may dislike Jade and the publicity surrounding her death, can I just point out that somebody has DIED here? And of course the timeless quote attributed to Iosef Stalin - "The death of one man is a tragedy, the death of a million, a statistic"
Yes, leaves a family blah blah blah, so do the overwhelming majority of people who die.

And do you feel the need to make comments about their loss being insignificant in the grander scheme of things? I notice you didn't tell the guy who posted about his grandfather "Well, lots of people lose relatives every day"Yes, leaves a family blah blah blah, so do the overwhelming majority of people who die.
Blame the media for going overboard on this, blame the people who are fascinated by it all (I know someone actually having copies of the English magazines on her sent 5000 km...). She just played the game. Much as I may dislike it I am not going to blame her for using society's stupid obsessions to get the attention and money she wanted. If this sentimental gushing over minor celebs didn't sell then it wouldn't be so all pervasive. That is the root of the problem, not her or others like her. If people just ignored them they'd go away.
