So, its Trump's birthday this Saturday. And things are turning out really badly for him. Not only has many artists quit on him, but the wresting event that is suppose to be taking place in front of the WH is also in a tailspin. (as the WH has a new structure with a cage)

So, Trump has been threatening artists for not showing up. Also, there are weight and hight restrictions for any military personnel that wants to attend. You can't be a certain height, or a certain weight etc.

Hopefully it will be one epic failure.

Apparently there have been a group of gentlemen who have declared an intention to rescue the event, by providing it with an audience.

An audience which is sufficiently, shall we say, flamboyant.

The gentlemen in question have stated that they will be there in large numbers, and to demonstrate their possession of a manly physique, will attend the event shirtless. They will also be wearing significant amounts of glitter, to highlight said masculine physique. They will be carrying flags to indicate their pride in the USA.

Anti Ice protesters get hefty sentences that, at least to me, seem politically motivated. One of them for example got 100 years in prison for firing an AR-15 towards a police officer and ok, here I can see why that would warrant a harsh sentence. However the sentences also include stuff like this:

Benjamin Song, who fired the gun at the police officer, was sentenced to 100 years in prison. Song was convicted of attempted murder of an officer of the United States, as well as firearm and explosives charges. He was also convicted of riot, providing material support to terrorists. He faced anywhere from 20 years to life in prison.

He shot and injured the officer - and can't have taken the shot without knowing it'd have a chance of killing. So he'd be cooked regardless.

The rest of it seems mental to me, but we don't know any details. Even the defence was expecting 15-25 years each, so surely there's some seriousness behind what's gone on.

But it points out sentences that would usually be concurrently, are instead totted up consecutively, hence how they ended up seeming so out of proportion. Maybe appeals will get it corrected.

However, the really nuts ones just by reading are:

So the supreme court has struck down Trump's efforts to get rid of birthright citizenship, 6 - 3. Still, the three that voted for its removal, clearly don't care about the constitution.

They have also refused to hear E. Jean Carroll, so that is the end of the road, maybe she will finally get the cash. But a third party has it, can't remember the name of the company. So what happens next will be interesting. They will have to pay up, but then they will try and get the money from Trump, then they will have a problem there.

That's a bigger and more important win than most people realize. The Fourteenth Amendment isn't just about birthright citizenship; it also includes the Equal Protection Clause and Due Process Clause. If a president can overturn the first sentence of the 14th by fiat, then he can do the same to the rest of it. Losing our constitutional rights to equal protection and due process means losing a host of other rights rooted in the Fourteenth Amendment:

• The right to equal access to facilities and services (Brown v. Board of Education, Green v. School Board of New Kent County)
• The right to voting and representation regardless of ethnicity (Nixon v. Herndon, Baker v. Carr)
• The right to have consensual sex (Lawrence v. Texas)
• The right to use contraception (Griswold v. Connecticut, Eisenstadt v. Baird)
• The right to marry whom you want (Loving v. Virginia, Obergefell v. Hodges)

... and the list goes on. In other words, it's a Christmas wish list of everything the US right wants to roll back to 1850.

I don't know how seriously to take this. Trump makes a lot of wild promises and then never follows through; he has reacted to previous legal defeats by promising further challenges and then quietly dropping the matter.

I did some checking on the procedural rules: While one can ask SCOTUS to re-hear a case, the rehearing must be requested immediately (within 25 days) and unlike an appeal, a rehearing isn't a retrial; a rehearing must be rooted in a claim that the judges overlooked an issue of fact or law in the case as presented. In other words, you're telling the nine highest legal authorities in the country that they missed a trick.

And kitten, if you ask the band to play that number, you best have your boogie shoes on. Put together, this explains why requests for SCOTUS rehearings are very rare, and actual rehearings rarer still:

Steve Vladeck, a professor at the Georgetown University Law Center, said in 2024 that the high court has not agreed to any rehearing of a ruling in an argued case since 1965 and has not agreed to a plenary rehearing since 1956.

Of course, Trump may be hoping to bully or buy off the SCOTUS Republicans who jumped the fence. I'm not sure that would be a winning strategy either. These are powerful people in their own right; it would be difficult to put together a credible threat or an alluring bribe on such short notice. And while the Extreme Court Six are corrupt, none of them (except perhaps Thomas) wish to be seen as openly corrupt.

It's fairly easy to find some credible sources for information.

That is, as they state, highly likely because Turkey borders Iran, and right now he's likely target number 1 for Iran. It isn't surprising that a less kitted out plane isn't suitable and therefore was forced (or even chose, we know he's a coward), the safer option. Doesn't mean it's "grounded". Especially given he got off Airforce 1 in the UK and got onto the Qatari gifted air force 1. Guess the Qatari one has more gold, and probably a golden toilet.

It just seems like the endless "salami tactics of corruption" (thin slices result in no outrage ever occurring, but collectively the cumulative end result otherwise would have). The mid terms should be an insight into how the US public feel overall, but there's not much hope it's going to be accurate, given what's being reported <_<

I'm not sure if this belongs here or in the "Death announcements for persons of note" thread, but the fact that Lindsey Graham has now passed away (and Mitch McConnell is . . well, doing whatever he's doing, and seemingly very unlikely to be able to communicate with his fellow senators save via a Ouija board) would have a significant impact on the current stability of the administration's senate numbers. It isn't so much a matter of "The Democrats now win in the senate," but the Republicans now have to work that much harder for every vote, and the fact that the missing men are two of the most experienced and reliable members they have would have to cause a problem.
