How to kill Xenon K (Q) without M2 ?

Post by beast_regards »

The Xenon invasions are really out of hand.

Xenon K (with L and M escorts) and Q's are rampaging across the universe.

In fact, my attempt to clear out Xenon that caused me trouble made things worse as originally I was against PX's and LX's, but K out of hand. Combat rank Master Chief stops being manageable.

Currently, the K along with 4 L's and 4 M's are camping my complex in Harmony of Perpetuity blasting all the NPC ships trying to get that zaza...

They don't seem to attack the complex itself, but blast any ship, mine or NPC, that gets close. They cleared out my lasertowers, as 10 lasertowers can't scratch K.

So, how I get rid of K without having M2 of my own?

I have only Carrack, Marauder, Heavy Osprey and Shrike, and they can't even scratch the K either.

You can use any ship with 3k+ weapon range Concussion impulse generator is well too. Just close with your target and stop. Press 'Q+D' keys. You ship start rotation so every enemy blast is missed you (almost :) ). Use your mouse to keep aim with your target while rotating. Wait while you see a `+` sign next make your speed -10 back. Keep firing... Only trouble - if you close 2k of your target and he start to use close range weapon. If you found your shield raising down - rotate and speed up to safe distance.

I wasn't able to pull this off.

Got wrecked a few times. The best I managed was to destroy the Xenon K while piloting the Marauder (M6) while Shrike and Carrack shot the K, but I was destroyed in the process so game over anyway...

It's doable, it's just super difficult.

Tried different approach, but K is able to survive 14 laser towers without the issue. I even lured it on Ion Mines to destroy the shield, and it worked, but the Xenon K is too hardy.

Each time I enter the system, they are blasting the complex hub so I left it alone, and it just hangs there OOS, I repaired the station with the think quest (I didn't even know there are such quests)

Now, there are two or three K's instead. They seem to be getting reinforcements. (Edit: as it is now, they have 2 K's, one P, two PX's, 11 L's and 9 M's)

I'll try with actual M2 ...

It's important to rotate and strafe together while close with enemy. You drawing about a circle with your trace. So you need to continue pressing rotate and strafe keys (in my case Q+D) and enemy shot will missed you.

Welcome to the X universe.

Some of the M6 can go toe to toe with a Q. You definitely want speed as your ally though. Expect the Qs to employ Flak and PSGs a lot. That second one really hurts. My tactic is an OP Maru with speed as it's ally. Circle around a Q at close range, like around it's body going from side to top, then top to side to belly. (Not front to back) I lob Specter missiles at it while I do this. The Q can't dodge or hit those easily. (Those are Terran missiles - close to a Hammer Heavy Torpedo damage wise though weaker by 100K)

Missile Frigates and Bombers are a decent strategy as well, just use seta to mess with the targeting of the Qs anti missile system.

The same tactic can work on a K or a J, but those can get lucky hits on you with a full side of Flak which does hurt. So caution and save before engaging.

I build in Harmony of Perpetuity and have had the same trouble in early game with the roving Xenon capital fleets there. I've seen an Xenon I with four K escorts and the Goner don't have many patrols.

I try to use strategy rather than brute force:
Spoiler
Show
- If the fleet leader has a Jump Drive and Energy Cells, it may jump away if you deplete its shields. It's fleet should follow slowly.

- Tornado missiles make short work of a Q's hull. Once its shield is down, usually 2-3 will destroy it. Qs have a huge blind spot under their belly so fast ship to get underneath, anti-shield weapons (Pulsed Beam Emitters are great) and a couple of Tornado missiles.

- If your piloting skills aren't great, Typhoon missiles are a good alternative. Just don't waste them until the targets shields are down.

- For a free escort force, accept a "Very Hard" retrieve abandoned ship mission and dock the claimed ship at your complex. Cancel the mission, and when the Police Force jumps in, they should attack the Xenon. They tend to be much more effective if you are in-system during the battle. This works to build up a police force in Harmony of Perpetuity, as Xenon will be a regular threat there.

- Xenon fleets usually have one target at a time (whatever the fleet leader is attacking). They often park near the complex because they targeted a ship which docked there and are waiting for it to undock. Attack an escort with a missile, to draw it away from the fleet, or attack fleet leader to draw the whole group away from the complex.

- The Xenon fleets don't resupply on patrol (as far as I know). If they're using ammo based weapons or missiles, you can evade their fire from a distance until they run out of ammo.

- Releasing fighter drones and sending them to attack the fleet leader first might help distract the fleet long enough for you to take down an escort.

- Laser towers are much more effective in-system. They tend to get tossed around during a battle which makes them harder to hit. Drop a swarm and lure the fleet towards it.

- If you are in-system, the Xenon weapons will consume energy. Just like any ship, they will drain in extended battles so set your ships to spam swarm missiles (Wasp + missile fire probability 100%) and send in fighter drones to drain their weapons before sending in your capitals.

- The Carrack can use the Plasma Beam Cannon which makes it very deadly at a distance and immune to missiles if setup right (Custom Turret Config > 1 Missile Defense, 2 Attack Cockpit Target, 3 Attack M7, 4 Attack M6, 5 Attack Fighters, 6 Protect Ship, 7 Attack What Ship is Attacking). PBCs are rare, but you can find bulk supplies on the black market occasionally. Both its side turrets can be brought to bear on a single enemy which is directly in front. It can't take many hits, but it's agile and 8 PBCs will make short work of most capitals from a distance. It's fast enough to withdraw waiting for energy to restore.

One more suggestion if you are stuck here:

If you got a ship that can carry a large amount and fire them, try Typhoon Missiles. Its a pack of 8 rotating missiles that collectively hit as hard as 1 specter missile. Some of them are likely to get shot down, but most of them should get through. You'll need to spam launch them though. Large quantities. Like 4 salvos launches per 1 GJ of shield, and per 1 million hull. That Osprey should be able to carry enough.
