Nope, I don't think so. My wife and I both struggled with this obscure term - has a relatively low frequency in modern written English, with an estimated occurrence of about 0.09 times per million words..I might be just lacking education, but...

The projectiles you flung at your opponent were "Battle Caroms." So I grew up knowing that a disc-shaped projectile was a "Carom." This was reinforced when I encountered the classic old Christian Youth Camp board game, the "Carom board."
From this it can also be used as a verb - something that ricochets off something else with the effect of a carom is described as "caroming."
