Dear Egosoft, a mod for the Vanilla game we need :

Post by Halpog »

Some Time ago Bernd said in a video , that Egossoft thinks about to bring some mods from the Community into the Game, he also said it wont be fast and not easy.

here is a Mod i wanna see in game :

https://www.nexusmods.com/x4foundations/mods/1842 the GATE MANAGER

this is by far the Best mo ive seen in the past 5 years.
it is exactly this mod we need for an Evolving universe.
ive tryed this mod for 4 weeks now, and all i can say it is a Blast.
the Universe changes so much, and brings so much new Oportunities, wars, trades for the NPC factions

bring this mod in the game without any ****** crapp arround it , let the building of gates costs money and ressourses ok,
but put this mod into the game ASAP please

As this mod effectively allows total and dynamic modification of the vanilla game universe connections and ignores the devs' intentions for vanilla progress in the game, my personal opinion is that this should remain an optional mod and not vanilla.

Imagine the inability to help with questions here in the forum about why station wares aren't selling, why traders don't use obvious routes, why blacklists don't work, why pirates or Xenon/Kha'ak keep appearing and attacking player assets, etc, etc where everyone's 'vanilla' universe was potentially unique to them.

OK, it was done to a very limited extent with the Xenon Hub in X3 and even that caused some unforeseen issues such as locked-off sectors and unexpected faction expansions. As I said, that's just my opinion as a player though.

Nah, I don't need that mod.
Also, and I might wrong, but I think from a lore perspective some people in the universe might not be happy with us dabbling in the gate connections too much. It's a galactic control mechanism after all.

I guess the custom game start has replaced the idea of signed mods.

I would be happy if they brought back Xenon hub (and we even have it in the background of one of the systems which is super cool).

But just managing gates would be lore-wise bad, because then gate shutdown event does not make sense anymore and connecting to the rest of the universe should be *easy*. And also, if player is the only one controlling it, it makes no sense (unless it is some magical tech from headquarter, but then other factions would want to control it, no?) and if factions control it, it would bring chaos.

Not everything that makes a good mod necessarily translates well into a core game feature. This fits into that category for a variety of reasons, some of which other people have already set out.

Almost nothing is "just in the background" in X4

The other day I tried to go to the big asteroid in Hatikvah Faith and died of "Entering the atmosphere", that is so unfortunate, because it is not even in the direction of the planet, so they just don't want us to fly around it. I haven't tried flying towards Hub in the latest patch, but as far as i remember there is also "atmosphere" there

Egosoft doesn’t treat X4 as a true sandbox in the usual sense—where players have near-limitless control over shaping the game universe. So far, the greatest degree of freedom the games offer are its diplomatic system, which allows players to influence relationships between factions and the Xenon Hub, which allowed players to temporarily connect multiple sectors together.
The gate manager is a solid concept, but it needs more player involvement to become truly viable.
