[Suggestion] Map should show faction colors AND player relation

Hello there!

When playing X4 I think it's nearly mandatory to have faction colors set on the map to get a feel for what the factions are doing.
It increases readability of the map drastically, instead of just having the map in red/blue.

However, being able to see the standing of ships/stations towards the player is still an important bit of information.
Being able to tell if that pink ship belong to the Khaak or just PAR, or if that SCA ship is trying to pirate me, or if i aggroed some station by accident, or some rep loss below a threshold...

Suggestion: When faction colors are enabled, add a red border line (or maybe glow) to things hostile to me.

Correct me if I am wrong but it appears that you are using one of the colour blind modes that can be customised in the Accessibility settings (as can the default or you have modified the default).

On unedited default, hostiles (Kha'ak / Xenon / Yaki) will be red and enemies will be pink (SCA / FAF / etc.) instead of slightly different shades of pink for all.

Personally I am also slightly colour blind but I find the default still to be the clearest although I never played with adjusting any of the pre-set colours in any of the schemes.

I believe the OP recognizes the different default colors for enemies and hostiles (pink vs red) but is also referring to the optional color scheme displaying different faction colors on the map.

Under the map options, there is a tab for "Other" settings. When enabled, one of the options will override the default blue, pink, and red colors with faction specific colors (e.g. blue for ARG, yellow for TEL, green for MIN, etc). However, doing so removes the ability to distinguish each ship's relationship level.

This has been raised in the past with similar requests to allow both types of information to be conveyed simultaneously. Suggestions included border colors or patterns, two-tone colorization, hashing/shading, etc. But to-date the map remains limited to showing only one state or the other (relation level OR faction). I suppose it may be a limitation related to performance.

On a semi-tangential note, I've always wondered why the faction color scheme used on the map doesn't match the colors of each faction's ships (i.e. paint jobs). Although I've now become conditioned to recognizing which factions are represented by each map color, I remember finding it very jarring and counterintuitive when I first started playing X4. For example HOP is magenta on the map but their ships are typically bright gold.

Thanks for the clarification, didn't even know that existed! Personally I only monitor fleet movements which are easily visible by sheer numbers, never really individual ships that are not my own but good to know the option is there.

No problem. Indeed, as much as this request has been raised in the past, I've just accepted and become accustomed to toggling the option to show faction color or relation color as needed. Not that I would mind the enhancement. But I imagine ES has their reasons for why things have remained the way they are.
