X2 Veteran log book , playing X4

Post by x2veteranoldschool »

I decided from time to time post here my personal journey in X4 world with screenshots whenever possible.

First log entry: Reading 144 pages manual , in X2 there was a lot of things, then X3 did improve a little bit , but somehow X3 didnt picked my interests to much.
X4 is quite different i am really looking forward towards my journey in that universe.

Log entry 2:
Thoughts on manual for X4
--------------------------
In the past you must spacewalk to claim a ship, now you can call "marines" and that's it, you own spaceship, very good!
With larger ships comes "marine tactic's", ok that's new thing.
Guns and Turrets have new deep!
Weapon can overheat , ok that's new too , the indicator of it not that great , but ok i can leave with it.
My old , but fully working joystick USB Thrustmaster Top Gun Fox2 Pro which i must say still in good shape will be used in new settings.
The menu settings are odd , but ok i will figure out what works best for my setup.
Settings->Controls->Manage->Controllers/Joysticks
Creating of custom profile is possible , good to know, i hope , i wont get to much spent in this settings.
Ok The HUD as always have a lot of indicators , that i too remember from my journey in X2 universe.
Online login? Well in 2025 i don't expect multiplayer from X4, i am very interested in single player campaign.
Game have very advance economy, upgrading ship and resupply as i remember was always a bit challenge in X2.
Ah station building challenging too,
The economy of X4 is impressive , creation own colony will be challenge and learning experience.

Playing trough tutorials and adjusting ingame controls,
well Top gun 2 fox pro is old joystick i know but acceleration doesn't work if i use joystick slider , not sure why its so hard to catch different position of slider but that minor issue. I decided to use for acceleration y and x keyboard bindings.
The UI doesn't feel messy, still font increase when i play on high resolution would be nice.
About tutorials , very well done, docking and landing in station was flawless experience , moving further trough tutorials.

Playing timelines mission hm, i am puzzled by it.

I don't as soon as i get hooked in game, and mission screen presented i fill somehow "disconnected" , of course people who like freedom of choice would say that's ok, me i need linear narrative and those disconnected missions make no sense.

Ok, that's frustrating , those mining and race missions, are getting on my nerves, i have very powerful pc , but things like detection of collision during landing is in latest X4 game problematic.

And what about scores, why i can't skip them, i love those final missions at each phase, but mining not fun, especially mining ice , when asteroid rotating and you need constantly adjust, collection of ore yes when collector beam is activated but, i missing buttons on my joystick, i already mapped essential stuff like nearest enemy , match speed, but i miss on my joystick additional buttons like ore collector, boost, that covered by keyboard but hm, that's sub efficient.
Many of those timelines mission feels like some sort of hidden tutorial, but my biggest problem is actual timer counter, i think some mission would be better to have like 1:50 for 4 start and 1 start for 5 minutes or 15 minutes that's more realistic.

Playing missions on time in space suit especially hard and difficult, i am not sure if i need to use mouse only or joystick with keyboard shortcuts.
I will buy joystick not sure which one, but i think if i found out what works i will write here.
Space suit missions are frustrating , yes there acceleration deceleration and the boost, but i tend to spin 360 grade uncontrollably and during biathlon mission i am struggle with targeting , because overall spacesuit control is hard.

Ok, i finished the timelines , not gonna say that was a fun, my impression like X4 Universe try to be more then a game , thats ok , still i dont recommend to play timelines if you first time X player , in terms of story i dont find it interesting neither meaningful.

Now i do Hatikvah mission, not really impressed actually i am very annoyed and not engaged.
About new joystick that's actually very good experience, thats double tipple my flight experience.

So wayward scion was kind of boring.
