[ERROR] X4 Spanish Language Critical Issues

Post by Fipolo »

Hi!

I just bought the game a few hours ago and as soon as I downlaod it I went to options to check and as we say here, you gave me the first "hit" one on the forehead :(

In some Latin America counties may be use "Prendido" as "Plugged" but not in all of them and for shure never in Spain's Spanish as you can see here: https://dle.rae.es/prendido
1 adj. Méx. groomed (‖ extremely neat).
Without.: trig.

2 m. Adornment, especially that which women put in their hair.

3 m. A pattern or drawing that serves as a ruler for making lace.

4 m. Part of the lace made on what the drawing occupies.
The most correct and international word in this case is "Conectado" an adjective that comes from the verb "to connect" and it's translated as plugged or connected" literally is the word we use as antonym for "apagado" that you used on the game options as a counterpart to "Prendido"

If you don't like it another option would be "Encedido" that can be translated as "on" https://dle.rae.es/encendido

Aslo If you didn't like those options you can use "Habilitado" that means "enabled"

As you can see the spanish language is rich on synonym but in this case the you chose the worst one.
I don't want my options "hair decorated" or "groomed" so please, correct the game for spanish users and/or change your Steam shop definition ASAP cause that "spain spanish is a lie"

Image

Anyway, with that said, I'm going to see if I can enjoy the game tutorials without tearing my eyes out in the process. As I see more errors about the language I will put them here

Well my eyes hurt on the Timelines intro. Have you hired Tarzan to translate it?

Image

I believe I hear "Hussel in the border territory is a risky bussines" on this phrase "Hussel" "Shuffle cards" so I think you mean a colloquial form for trade or negotiate in spanish we can use "Trapichear" if you don't want to use a formal form like "trade" or negotiate . Also "is a risky bussines" is not translated as "oficio peligroso." oficio is "ofice" business is "negocios", but in this case in spanish for that expression we use "job" "trabajo" also the expresion we normally do it with "danger" not "risky" in spanish so the correct translation must be "Trapichear en los territorios fronterizos es un trabajo peligroso" or "Comerciar en los territorios fronterizos es un trabajo arriesgado". In any case hussel is never translated as "vender", to sell and business is not "oficio" for sure.

Image

"Personaje podrido" I haven't heard it well but I think it says an expression similar to "rotten character" or at least that's the literal translation of "personaje podrido" but we don't use that expression in spanish... You can use words like "canalla" the adjetive we have for some one vile without morals if you want to be polite without insults like "idiot" or "asshole". Another translate for that expression must be "algun desalmado", some souless, or "alguna alimaña, some vermin.

Also "listo para destruirte" is "ready for destroy you" literaly but we use "preparado para destruirte" which in English it's translated exactly the same if you use a translator but preparado is "prepared" not ready and that's the way we say that cause "listo" is also used for "smart" in spanish and can lead to confusion depending on the context

Image

"But you won't be dead" properly translated "Pero no estarás muerto" exactly the word we use. Perecido is "perished" we normally don't use that

Image

"Está bien" means "She/he is good" cause "Está" is the 3rd person form I think the correct one is "Estoy bien" "I'm fine"

Image

Es bueno que tomaste asiento. "It's good that you take a seat" This phrase has no meaning in the context, a wrong attempt to translate an expression, listening to what Lissa says in English... The words you are looking or are "Mejor toma asiento"

Image

"¡¿Viaje en el tiempo?!" without the accent its "a trip", not the first form for "to travel" so you need to change it for "¡¿Viajé en el tiempo?!"

Image

Same issue when the character replies it... Viajé no viaje

Also on the last phrase of the conversation, something like "let me know when you are ready for your first mission" I see you missed a space between 2 words in spanish, I didn't take a capture this time, but the phrase was correctly translated.

¡Espeluznante! .. The air in spanish never tastes just smells so "El aire huele rancio" not "El aire sabe rancio"

"Te diré mas tarde" literal translation of "I'll tell you later" ...

Wrong, you mean "Luego te cuento" or "Luego te digo" also you can use "Luego hablamos" We speak later

Do we really also need this here when you have posted it in the right thread in the Spanish forum?

If you wanted to bring it to the attention of English speaking devs then just a link to the Spanish thread post in a single post here would probably have sufficed.

Well, I don't think it's a bad thing to draw attention from english devs or any one that can make something about it because it's something scandalous, and I'm not telling this only for the fact that egosoft lie on the steam store when they put "Spanish - Spain" on the Languages section.

Until now the translation is one of the worst I never read on a game, in fact I am so horrified after a a hour of playing that I changed the game to english to stop reading that shit. :(

It's a shame, even google translator can do it better (it will be literal on expresions but it doesn't use archaic words like perish) also any one with dev knowledges to export and import the texts can fix it quickly with some copy & paste on any modern translator IA "like copilot"

But I admit that that wasn't my goal whit these messages, they just were posted before I discovered the spanish thread, and then I post on that one "just in case" Sorry.
