I'm quite sure that every DLC has had "hyped up" praise before release and very little "critique". Even the Timelines. Before it was known what really is in the box -- the trailers do not show the whole picture.

Yes!, that means you have given yourselves breathing space to release an 8.0 RC 2 and polish off the last issues.

We already knew upfront what Timelines was about, I noticed there were already some critiques and heated debates as it took another way design-wise.
I can't tell if it was the same for the other expansions.
I got to praise Egosoft for showing their plans with us as much as they can though.

Envoy OST has been released on Steam.

There is a preview on Egosoft YT page:

Edit:
Not gonna lie - the Envoy DLC now has become it's money worth by the OST alone - everything else is just a (very) nice bonus :D

Thats what I said when the trailer launched and hell yes it gets even better from here.

Next up: Soundtrack DLC. Giving each sector a unique soundtrack 😜 While devs work on X5? 😬

Code: Select all

So does how you interpret it however.

vvvvvvvv wrote: Mon, 1. Sep 25, 13:57 I want ship interiors. The demo showed interior with everything I wanted. Why would I criticize it? Screenshots literally make me drool. Although I'm positive my character still will be unable to lie down on that bed.
Well thank you for proving my earlier point.
vvvvvvvv wrote: Mon, 1. Sep 25, 13:57 Ship with interior is also not a quick work, you could contact some 3d studio and ask them for a quote.
Yesnt. I'm not saying it is no effort. But bottom line is it is still less than other dlcs considering sectors, systems, soundtracks, races, story, station modules, ship designs, etc (again: Astrid).

vvvvvvvv wrote: Mon, 1. Sep 25, 13:57 Erm it does. Ever worked with a legacy codebase?

A comparable thing would be ... if Egosoft ripped out their xml scripting language and put something like lua inside.
In fact I have. It is certainly a pain, but this is still overselling. Just a few things you just take into this for no reason for example are: faction ai, activation behaviours, sector to sector travel, task behaviour, building systems. It certainly was a big thing, but they absolutely did not have to rewrite the entirety of x4 for this.
vvvvvvvv wrote: Mon, 1. Sep 25, 13:57 X4 has 200+ ships to playtest.
That is what the public beta is for. Sure they need to run some tests, but I would wager the majority of it is done by the public beta.

Now, I'm starting to agree that this discussion is starting to stretch out quite a bit. I said what I wanted to say and as much as I like discussions I would rather not make 30+ posts about this.
I would just incline you (and potential other readers) to do everyone involved a favour, including Egosoft and yourself, and think critically about these DLCs. I'm not at all saying dislike or hate them, but looking at the numbers I believe critique is certainly justified and healthy. And that should have reason to be voiced or at least thought about.

I participated in that beta, and public beta feedback did not cover every ship. UNpaid volunteers are nice to have, but you absolutely can't expect them to do all the work. Internal testing would need to be done for every ship. Lastly if you had experience with legacy codebases, what about legacy game engine codebases? Game engines aren't small.

This statement of yours accuses everybody who disagrees with your stance of being blind, not thinking critically and harming your game.

See my earlier statements. "People aren't stupid" and "delivery matters".

From my point of view it is like this:
* The game will die without funding.
* There are very few ships in the game with continuous interior and it is good to have one more of them.

Besides, it hasn't been released yet. Need to play it to criticize it.

6 days to go .. not counting or anything :)
The RC2 beta is looking great, I'm now eagerly anticipating the story in the Envoy pack, and giving my Agents new ships with better Prestige.

I tried searching the forums to see if this had been brought up yet, but I didn't see any other posts about it. The Egosoft shop has been giving me a 503 redirect for the last two days. I know there's another 5 days before the pack drops and maybe it will be fixed on its own by then, but could an Egosoft staff notify infrastructure that their backend may be down or their reverse proxy is not registering it properly.

I've confirmed the problem with the Egosoft Shop page and passed the information on the relevant person. Thanks for reporting it.

Sorry about the confusion! Since X4 isn’t available on its own on GOG anymore (since June 2024), the DLC pages currently show the “Discovery Pack” (X4: Foundations + X4: Timelines) as a requirement. This is misleading - you absolutely do not need Timelines to play the Envoy Pack. The only requirement is owning X4: Foundations.

Because X4: Foundations isn’t listed individually on GOG, their system automatically pulls in the Discovery Pack as the base product. I’ve already contacted GOG to see if they can adjust the way this is displayed.

GOG.com is not showing the 8.00 update for Linux users. It's also not giving Linux users (like me) any way to download the Envoy Pack once purchased.

Any idea when GOG will actually be providing the update and Envoy Pack for Linux download?
