Screen turns off after a few minutes of play. (7.60)

Post by gilius76 »

Hello,

I decided to start a new game. I haven't played for over a year because I moved for work.

Now I'm encountering something strange in the game. I've never had any problems before.

I completely reinstalled my PC to make sure there wasn't a defect that had developed over time.

I've already tried lots of things: disabling lots of graphics options, reducing the frequency, disabling my screen's game mode, changing the cable, making sure I only have DisplayPort or HDMI (avoiding a mix of the two), lowered the graphics to the lowest setting, tried full screen and windowed mode, checked if it was the NVIDIA drivers, switched to very old versions, and even tried using only one monitor instead of two. I tested on one and then the other without success...
Nothing worked, so I reformatted, but it's still no better.
As soon as I start playing, my screens suddenly go black.
I can still hear the game sound, and then suddenly, no more game sound. However, Discord works, my microphone works, my friends can hear me, but I can't do anything, the screens remain black. I tried unplugging them and plugging them back in, but no, I'm forced to do a hard shutdown.
Nothing responds on the computer.
Once restarted, there is absolutely no dump, no crash observed, the only thing is an unexpected restart.

4X Foundation is the only game that causes me this problem.
I've never had any problems before.
My game is vanilla, I don't have any mods, and I was even able to participate in a beta test a year ago without any issues.

In the meantime, with my move, my PC was reformatted once, then I reinstalled the game, and finally reformatted it a second time a few days ago to make sure there was nothing left.

Basically, my game is clean and I'm starting a new game, but I have Steam Cloud and I feel like it has kept the settings from my T16000M.

So I'm completely stuck...
I have a 3080 TUF gaming card and I play
either on a Samsung C49RG90SSU ultrawide monitor.
or on an ARK Odyssey 55 gen 1 monitor.

So if anyone has any ideas to save my life...
Thanks in advance.

Sorry you have probelms. To help you efficiently, please read the very first sticky post in this forum and provide the information as indicated there.

Good evening.
Sorry.

So I'm using version 7.60.
French language.

I don't mind saving, but it's really just the beginning of the game.
It does this regardless of the game.

Here is the Dxdiag.
https://fromsmash.com/Dxdiag

I chose the basic start-up where you are a young pilot with your first ship.
The game doesn't seem to crash on the home menu; I stayed there for half an hour to test it.
Otherwise, my actions are nothing special.
I just flew my ship, attacked, did loops, went to a station...
As I said, nothing special. The screens lose the image after a few minutes. It's random, it happens no matter where you are, even in an “empty” area, and I timed it, there's no specific duration.
Sometimes it happens after two minutes, sometimes I'm lucky and it takes five minutes.

As I mentioned in my first message, I haven't made any changes to the game.
The game is vanilla. I just started a new game and recreated this part several times.
My game was working fine a year ago. That's all I can tell you.
In the meantime, I reformatted my computer, moved house, and reformatted again, as I thought it might be the drivers or something else...

I don't get any error messages,
no dumps,
no messages in the event viewer,
except for the kernel for the sudden power cut when I force shutdown.

All that happens is that my screens lose the video signal, the sound of the game in the background suddenly disappears,
However, Discord and everything else works, I can communicate with my friends, etc.
But I can't get the image back, and I don't think the keys on my keyboard are working. I tried Alt F4 to see if it would shut down Discord or something else, but without success.
So I can't say where it's coming from.

Hi, from your DxDiag:

1. Most of your Windows Error Reports are LiveKernelEvents and there is one Blue Screen. Those are almost always system hardware or driver issues and not game/application code issues. As your issue is a graphics failure it may be very useful if you could link your VulkanInfo file as well as the DxDiag.

2. You have many different sound devices and drivers all running at the same time. Disable any you don't use in Control Panel, Device Manager, Sound/Audio Devices (right-click on a device in the list for a disable/enable pop-up). If you keep using your Realtek onboard sound chipset then note that you have a default generic Microsoft driver for it rather than a Realtek driver. Reducing the number of sound devices and drivers running could be useful if your problem is a driver issue.

Good luck.

One or two people have reported their screens going into "sleep" mode while the game is running. It's not something the game itself has any control over, and would be triggered by something at the driver or hardware level, but some of them said that running the game in Borderless Windowed mode prevented it from happening.

Hello,
Thank you for your feedback.

Here is the Vulkan Info
https://fromsmash.com/VulkanInfo

Yes, by default, the only errors are forced shutdowns, as mentioned, and the BlueScreen was related to something else but linked to testing.

As for the sounds, I didn't think to disable those on the screens, but they had never caused any problems before.
Regarding the ones I use, I have a Focusrite, but only for input; it's used for my microphone.
And then there's the Nvidia Broadcast part.
For sound, I use Logitech Z906, so only the basic speaker. I thought Amory Crate had installed it, but no, I corrected that.
And I disabled the screen sound (however, Nvidia always reactivates itself, and I need broadcast for the microphone part).
But as I said, it didn't have any impact before.

Regarding the second message, yes, I saw a forum discussing this, but I only play in windowed mode without borders.
And I tried everything without success...

I see that one of your SSDs is from Samsung. There have been black screen issues reported in the past when using Samsung SSD Magician or Rapid mode with X4 (and similar using Crucial SSD Momentum Cache). If your hardware supports and has those tools then try X4 again with them disabled.

I have never used Samsung tools, and I am not sure if the QVO 870 is compatible.
I am moving my game to one of my SanDisk NVME drives.

I'm a little confused as to what the problem is that you are reporting. You started out talking about your screen turning off but the rest of the PC working fine, and now you're talking about forced shutdown of the PC and bluescreen errors. These are completely different and separate issues. The screen turning off would, as I said, be related to the monitor's "sleep" mode. Forced shutdown of the PC and bluescreen errors would be driver or hardware faults. Neither are something that are even possible for a game to do directly under Windows.
