I have seen the same thing in my game. I didn't really think much of it because I gave up on trying to get on FAFs good side when I saw they didn't have any diplomatic options.
Basically when accepting a mission from a dataleak that is given by FAF, the mission immediately fails with the ticker message "Relations between the involved factions changed". My assumption was that upon accepting the mission, one of my ships was actively in combat with a FAF raider and so I was dumped from the job. This didn't happen all the time, and if the mission didn't immediately fail then I would be able to complete it at my leisure without issue.
