in my longer running games, when I have a sizeable fleet, I always find myself in the following situation:
I have a in detail configured fleet: Groups are assigned, each capital has its fighter escort. Some heavy hitters on "bombard", some Auxilliaries for supply etc. in short: The fleet consists of a tree of configured subgroups.
The problem arises when I would like to change the leader of a subgroup (or the leader of the entire fleet): As far as I know, it is not possible to change the leader of a group/fleet other than reassigning all subordinates. And this is extremely annoying, because there can be a lot of subordinates! Redoing in principle the whole fleet setup is super tedious. What I would love to have is:
When right-clicking a ship that is currently part of a fleet, an option is displayed "Promote to Commander", which makes this ship the new commander of the subgroup, leaving the rest of the group as is, and also keeping the subgroups position in the fleet structure.
In the example the currently selected ship "SC-SD Veil Slicer" would take the position of the current commander, "ISD II Ionstar", which would either be completely unassigned, or would swap the assignment with SC-SD Veil Slicer (you could then with another click remove the assignment if desired).
This is such a fundamental functionality that at first I couldnt believe it is not part of the base game. I believe there would be a lot of players who would appreciate this function. So if you are capable of writing a mod that implements that, please do so, it would be highly appreciated. You would be my hero!
