Alternative to Ubuntu 18?

Hi All..

Still love X3 and expect to be still playing it for some time.. My system is Linux and I have Ubuntu 18 installed soley so that I can play X3 on it.
But Ubuntu 18 is quite out of date now and becoming more so as time rolls on. So is there another Linux distro that can run X3? My understanding is that 32bit support is required, something that is becoming rarer these days I think.

Another thought that occurred to me is running Ubuntu 18 in a vitrual environment?

Am hoping someone with decent Linux skills (mine are poor) has found a way to get past Ubuntu 18 becoming out of date..
