X4 Captains Log

What would happen if your captain actually kept a log?

Captain’s Log: Veebeegyna
Timestamp: 16042025.1806 PMT (Penta Magnetar Time)
Captain Ryo Chandra, Commanding Officer

The Veebeegyna, an exploration vessel built by the Paranid for the Cerberus Collective, remains stationed outside the Jumpgate to Sanctuary of Darkness.
Our crew of 108 souls, including the steadfast Marine Chief Vivian Londa, has been tasked by the Alliance of the Word, under Commander Numanckaret, to plot a safe path through the asteroid fields of a forebodingly perilous sector.
Sanctuary of Darkness, now controlled by the Kha’ak after the Xenon occupation, presents formidable challenges: energy discharges, extreme radiation, and dust clouds which obscure vision and disorient even the most seasoned pilots.
These environmental hazards threaten critical navigational systems, shields and hull integrity.

Today, we dispatched the Vigor Syndicate scout ship Ervine Flash to begin the mission.
To my surprise, Cerberus Collective CEO Paul Harkonen insisted on piloting the scout himself. Deckhands reported he appeared compromised—possibly drugged—before launch. As a precaution, I assigned relief pilot Kareen Felden, a spirited 3 Star Minus pilot from Vigor Syndicate Space, to accompany him.
The Ervine Flash returned unscathed, though our Chief Mechanic reports its full complement of navigational beacons requires replacement.

Vivian, still carrying the weight of her traumatic past in Hatikvah’s Choice, led the marine detail with her usual grit. I’ve noted her nightmares seem to linger, but her focus remains sharp. The crew performed admirably under pressure, though Harkonen’s involvement raises questions.
His ties to the Terran Secret Service, already under scrutiny, cast a shadow over his motives.
Why would a CEO risk himself on a scout run? I’ll be keeping a close eye on his actions for the remainder of his stay aboard.

The Great Reef, a civilized spot in Provinces Adrift space, feels like a distant memory. That sector’s ship manufacturing economy struggles, but it’s a haven compared to the chaos within Sanctuary of Darkness.
Itself an easy jump from our point of origin and is as unforgiving as its name suggests. The star —possibly artificial— remains a mystery too dangerous to probe for now.

Personal observation: This mission feels like more than a simple pathfinding op. The Alliance’s urgency, Harkonen’s erratic behaviour, and the Kha’ak’s presence suggest deeper currents at play. We’ll proceed with caution, but I can’t shake the sense we’re navigating more than just asteroids and environmental hazards.

End Log

@ thejewishbear: It might be worth starting your own thread in this forum if you intend to keep posting in it as the OP is not maintaining access to their story link and so the thread should probably slip away.
