[Tool] Creating an X4 Editor

I was thinking of working on creating a desktop application similar to the X3 editor. I was curious if there is any documentation as to file layouts and all the rules that apply for each type, for example a pulse vs beam weapon? I know there are different attributes set depending on the example provided, but I haven't found documentation showing what all the possibilities are or rules to follow.
