That was a drop in the bucket compared to this.

2977 victims died in the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and the nation was unified and rallied to war. Today, while the majority of the population does recognize the seriousness of nearly 100,000 dead, a few dimwitted outliers, spurred on by an uncaring and callous maniacal despot, want to see that casualty rate climb higher and faster so that they can go have a sandwich wherever they like. It's quite shameful to see people who claim to be patriots, and veterans, no less, show such contempt for the lives of their fellow citizens.

Exactly my point. I recall how this rippled through all our laws and regulations, - patriot act, TSA, NSA, - how it jump started some 10 yr of war. And yet, the number of dead right now is already considered acceptable. Either our priorities are off now or they were off in 2011.

Human did the first (with surprise). You "control" humans with law and guns.
You can neither shoot corona nor take it to court.

you don't think that lack of control warrants measures to safeguard human lives? I mean, the RWNJs to this day love to say "Muslims want to kill you!" to justify continued aggression overseas. Now there's something here, on our soil, that has killed thousands times more than any terrorist has and the same people are threatening the lives of people that are working to keep us all safe. Where's the logic and reason in that?

That could be what goes through some people's minds, but I dont follow that math, I see numbers instead.

0. Fear can hamper reasoning.
1. Was it a "Constitutional Right" to not be controllable by laws and guns in some country?
2. Birds. Small birds respond to incomprehensible threat by focusing on something else. Like waving guns at strangers when they rather should flee or hide.

Agreed. Zero is a nice round number. EXIT_SUCCESS. All other numbers are a failure.

Cummings is just a distracting sideshow in the UK; he thought himself special and indispensible and so took risks because he thought he could and should to maintain his 'essential' position. Now he is trying to save that position and his career and in doing so he is bringing out the usual heated divisions between supporting and opposing factions; something that frankly we could all well do without given the circumstances.

The good news is that the science and research into containing and treating the virus continues here unabated. :)

Sure, fear can have that effect. Fear is also a natural instinct that tends to help all creatures (humans included) stay alive. But there's a line being crossed there by dear leader and his ilk by using fear as a weapon to enrage the small minded segments.
1. Was it a "Constitutional Right" to not be controllable by laws and guns in some country?
I have no idea what you're talking about. The US constitution only applies to one country in the world. And I'm not familiar with any constitution that any other country may have adopted, but that would still only apply to that specific country.
2. Birds. Small birds respond to incomprehensible threat by focusing on something else. Like waving guns at strangers when they rather should flee or hide.
Birds are arming themselves with guns now?

Except that it's not just a single zero. If the death total were 10, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Even if it hits 99,999 and stops, that number of dead in a single country from 1 event over a such a short period of time should give anyone pause to consider the impact that has.

If only we weren't talking about deaths, one million would also be a mental threshold.

That Cummings story just makes me feel sick and angry, the longer it goes on the worse it gets. They are basically now changing the law and backdating it to protect him and it is wrong. It shows Johnsons true colours and lets everyone with sense see he does not give a toss for the people of this country, while he is willing to do anything to protect himself and his friends, he is a disgrace.

Bought a blood Oximeter, after RM's mention they do indicate things going awry. - I was pleased I had a decent level and pulse, but my mum (aged 82 with cancer and heart failure) had a better pulse (54!!!) and a blood/oxygen level of a constant 97%. - (Background: both of us had heavy coughs, headaches and I was struggling with congestion in one lung.)

I may be wrong, but I've a feeling in early June, the R rate is gonna move back above 1 in this region. There are now frequent family visits to people around me, and they are entering houses of loved ones. - I don't imagine my little village is any different to elsewhere in my region.

54 is actually not great...it's abnormal for anyone other than a trained athlete to have a resting heart rate that low (see "Bradycardia").

I know, I know... It was more a tongue in cheek comment as it does look good on the face of it. She's always had a low pulse, and her heart issues go back around 35 years, with her heart failure diagnosed on Christmas Eve, 4 years ago. :|

I was thinking ,you know how Cummings is meant to be an advisor to Johnson, he can't be a very good advisor, because if he was he would have advised Johnson to sack him as by not sacking him it is effecting Johnson's politically and not in a good way.

Warning - there's an f-bomb or two in the video in the link below, but.. in the circumstances I think it's warranted (mods feel free to disagree and remove if you want).

I could equally have posted it in the Trump thread.

This guy PA House Representative Brian Sims, is righteously angry. No tldr. Watch it - it should be compulsory viewing.

holy crap. Dude... if this is factual, and at this point, I don't doubt it... That entire republican body needs to be arrested and jailed.
