3.0 Public Beta is now available

We're thrilled to kick off the beta for our big 3.0 update of X4: Foundations! While we recently informed you about the delay of the 3.0 public release, we're now ready to have interested beta testers check out some of the main changes this big update will bring to X4: Foundations in the first quarter of 2020. These include:
  • Improved graphics engine to support new visual effects
  • Better sound effects
  • Virtual seminars and quicker skill progression for crew training
  • Configurable alert system
  • Individual and group crew transfer
  • Policing options for player-owned space
  • Ability to dock using a spacesuit directly
  • Improvements to menus including Map, Encyclopedia, Logical Station Overview and Logbook
  • Improved target display and mission guidance
  • More control over drones and turrets
  • Alternative steering methods including head tracking systems and X3 retro mode
The full change log with over 150 entries and details on how to access the public beta of X4: Foundations can be found HERE. Please be aware that this first public beta version of the 3.0 update does not contain any new story content – this will be added at a later stage.

I just did the first 2 tutorials.
The first one.... my god its a good tutorial! Well done egosoft. Well voice acted, easy to follow, you even have 'press escape to close this box' so the player can keep up! The second tutorial has a few issues however, right at the start it says 'your objective is displayed as a orange circle', when at the time it says this it isnt. Was a bit confusing as I did the second tutorial first, and didnt notice the green line.

In any case, the first tutorial especially is going to help a lot of people.

Theres loads of excellent changes too. Have you changed ship handling too? Everything feels much more solid and fluid. Eg, the Quasar and Eclipse seem a bit more sluggish (in a good way). Might be placebo though?
Graphics are obviously massively improved, love the new engine effects (thanks for breaking the engine colour mods I just spent weeks making, by the way ;p ).

Great! Didnt expected a beta before christmas. Cool!

But I havent seen a fix for the (in my opinion) most critical bug that is the docking of ships. Is this fixed? I see many changes about docking but no one is mentioning the bugfix for ships not beeing able to properly dock at other ships. Is this maybe lost in the changelog? Would be awesome if yes!

Edit: OK I just tested it out myself. It is still not fixed :(

What a great list of improvements, additions and fixes! Hopefully I will find some time during the weekend to try it out.

Im assuming the split ships and sectors are not included in the beta? I really want to play and start a new game but cant until they are... :(

My personal favorites:

New Feature: Individual and group crew transfer.
New Feature: More control over drones and turrets.
Added new paint themes for player ships.
Added option to control the turret modes on stations.
Added option to rename fleets (formerly known as wings).
Added Attack Capital Ships and Attack Fighters weapon modes.
Added option to hide statistics section in Logical Station Overview.

+ not listed: new weapons (flak cannons! Railguns!)
+ new Teladi ship

Each faction has a new weapon, argon get the flak turret, paranid get the muon charger, and teladi get the railgun.

I just want to add, Egosoft, that the new graphical and sound improvements are great, really help make the game feel more physical. And the new guns are interesting too! I find myself wishing there was a turreted railgun for stations though lol.

Didn't find anything about how the game handles music. Can you please do something about that, how the game starts adn stops songs from playing. There are many tunes that I just don't get to hear.

With changes added by 2.60 you can make warehouse/trading station using any station with cargo storage:
- build station with proper storage (e.g. container, solid, liquid).
- drop at least one piece of ware you want to trade onto that station storage.
- set up buy/sell conditions in station logical overview.
