My Frame Rate just Crashed - resolved (modding issue)

Post by Free Radical »

I've been playing this game for about 15 hours, flying around having a good time, with no issues with game performance. Things were mostly smooth. I started off in Black Hole Sun, flew over to 18 Billion, down into Fractured Logic, but then flew a big circle and when I arrived in Argon Prime for the second time, everything got really choppy. I turned on frame rates and while sitting the the Argon Prime Warf with average settings, on a GTX 970 Card I see I am crawling at 7 FPS. I realize this card sits at the minimum game requirement, but as I said everything was smooth, until I put a second ship in the air and had it start auto mining (out of sight). I saw a thread here, which I've misplaced which made suggestions on how to improve performance and have changed some of them to the following:
Requested Info:
* Version 1.50 (326172) English
* 2 Mods installed, Crystal Finder, and Extended Range Satellite. Behavior started soon after installing Extended Range Satellite.
* Game Start: Young Fighter
* Exact nature of the problem- stated above.
* No relevant changes to my system, that I am aware of.
* Where appropriate, additional symptoms, error messages, links to screenshots and crash dump files (see this FAQ entry)- No crashes.
* Your system specifications in the form of a DxDiag report and vulkaninfo (see this FAQ entry)- figuring out how to add these.

Graphic Settings: My resolution is 1920x1080
Anti-Aliasing FXAA low
Borderless Window
Triple Buffering VSunc
Gamma : 100
Graphic's Quality : Custom
Texture Quality: Medium
Shadows Off
Soft Shadows ON
SSAO Off
Glow off
LOD Setting 50
Effect Distance 50
Radar High
Screen Space Reflections off
HQ Video Capture off

Any suggestions appreciated.
I'm looking at a new card and would be really happy if I don't need a $500 card to play this game.
Thanks!

Edit Update: As an experiment, I reverted all of my graphic setting to default, and the frame rate remains unchanged at 7 fps.

Hopefully it's ok to post a link, this thread at Reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/X4Foundations/ ... or_bugged/) Seems to indicate that the more you explore, the larger your save file gets and the more laggy your game will become. Now I have a ship on auto mine, and I might assume this is aggravating the issue. That link, also links to a thread in Steam which says "auto explore" will slow your game to a standstill, and that the "save file" the part that stores exploration needs to be deleted. The Steam thread links back to the X Universe Forums (viewtopic.php?f=180&t=407800) which discusses this.

Is Auto Explore broken? I may take the steps, but it wipes your exploration progress, unless you have deployed satellites. Has anyone taken this drastic measure to fix lag in your game?
Thanks!

Since this is X4: Foundations, I don't think you meant to post it in X Rebirth Tech Sp. Also please use the edit button rather than post again where yours is still the last post in the thread.

Now that I have moved it, please see the first announcement in X4 Tech Sp about the essential information needed from you if we are to be able to kelp you.

Thanks for the help! I have added all the info required in Post 1 except for the DxDiag and the Vulkan info. I don't see a way to attach them to my post. And my understanding is that it's not the best to publicly post you DxDiag info. Could I possibly email you these two reports to you?

Update: As a first step, I removed the Extended Satellite Mod, and my frames jumped from 5 up to 25 while sitting on a landing pad in the Argon Prime Wark, the game is now playable. So I think the issue is resolved. I ams still looking to upgrade my card.

However for future reference , is there a way to forward info such as my DxDiag and Vulkan Info directly to Tech Support without posting it in this forum? Thanks!
Thanks!

I cannot provide an authoritative response (just another forum user here) but I don't think they provide a private way to send them info, unless you are sending it to the crash@ email address which I think you are only supposed to use if you are experiencing specific, identified crash types that they are investigating and have requested the dump files and stuff from you. Everything else seems to work with people posting links to files hosted on dropbox or google drive or whatever.

As suggested in the reporting instructions, if you have privacy concerns about data revealed in your dxdiag (such as maybe the machine hostname? Really the data there is pretty bland) you should edit it out and provide a link to the upload of the edited version.

There is no reason at all not to post DXDiag info, otherwise we wouldn't ask people to do it. The only unique information in there is your computer name; this information is normally of no interest or use to anyone else but it's also trivial to edit out of the DXDiag text if you have, for example, called your computer something that could identify you personally. You can upload your DXDiag to any hosting site and link it in your post.

Just in case you would, not saying you do, have any illegal software on your machine, DxDiag info will not show anything like that. It's perfectly safe and anonymous as CBJ stated.

Thank you all for the help and advice! Regarding the Extended Range Satellite Mod, I have replaced it with the Sector Satellite Mod and so far no fps issues.

What prompted my questions bout DxDiag posting was an article I read on line that it includes your IP address that it and other system info might provide a would-be hacker with a weakness in your system for the purpose of breaking in. I don't know enough about it, except to ask the question.
Thanks!

I'm not sure where you read that, but a DXDiag report doesn't include your IP address; it's just a list of your PC components and version information for things like drivers and codecs. As I said before, the only information that is even remotely personal is the computer name at the top.

To add to this: One thing you can do is what I've done and tack it onto your signature so any future posts you create already have the information available for the devs. That way they'll always have it for posts that need it, and can ignore it for posts that don't! :)
