Preorder Bonus "Paint Mod" - Whats that?

According to the Steam store page we get an exclusive "paint mod" when preordering and connecting our Steam account to the forum account.

1.) First of all what is a paint mod? A color or a pattern or both?
It's something used to adjust the appearance of a ship. It can consist of a number of attributes, colour being the most important. Other features of paint mods I will leave to be announced more formally.

2.) Can we select color/pattern independently from one another?
A paint mod consists of a set of attributes. You can't pick and choose which ones get applied.

3.) Are there other paint mods in the game despite the standard and exclusive one?
Yes.

4.) Can we mod/create and share our own paint mods?

5.) [Borderline Question] If so, why would one choose to preorder to get a moddable item in the game?

7.) Other games use skins as optional items to buy in ingame shops or DLCs for real money. Is this a thing in X4?

Login -> Click on your name in the top right corner and go to "User Control Panel" -> You can link your Steam Account on the fourth tab "Egosoft Settings"

9.) Do we get the preorder bonus when preordering in retail?
We do not yet have a final agreement with DeepSilver regarding a boxed version, so we cannot make any statements regarding what might or might not be included in it.

Im assuming we can have custom paint jobs for ships and with the preorder they supply premade paint jobs, which if course will be ripped and remodded and re-released by modders

To get official libraries and mods releaed by Egosoft for X2 and X3 you had to link one of your games serial key to your egosoft profile.

I linked my Steam account with Egosoft account, so once Steam allow to buy pre-order this paint mod will somehow be added as DLC to my Steam account right?

Oh!! I thought it was going to be the ability to apply whatever colors you wanted all over the ship. It did seem a pretty amazing feature to lock behind a pre-order wall. This makes a lot more sense.

You might want to change that. They do have an agreement like in 'there is no agreement'. Meaning for the foreseeable future there is no retail version.
