How to stop SETA from deactivating?
I'd like to alt-tab out of the game and let time pass, but whenever I press a button, the SETA system turns off. How can I engage SETA and still alt-tab to browse the web or whatever?

It's nice to do this once in a while, but SETA can really screw things up, especially while you're not watching. Just leave the m/c running overnight with 'run in background' turned on & it'll achieve a similar effect, with your screensaver & power-saving settings unaffected (as the game is mostly CPU-bound rather than disc intensive)

I have verified that both left alt and tab are unbound, by temporarily binding each one (and then cancelling), and checking for the conflict warning. SETA disengages the moment I press left alt, so regardless of what comes after that, the damage is already done. One additional thing that happens is that at times when I accidently let go of alt before tab, my ship starts moving forward, as if I had increase accelerator. Considering that "full accelerator" is bound to tilde key and no longer tab, this looks like a bug to me.
I've never been able to change the focus away from TC without disengaging SETA. I did however stop TC from doing the unwanted video enhancement by changing the hotkey to right alt. As I use two monitors and sometimes wish to do something in a different app while SETA is engaged, the inability to do this is quite annoying. Thanks to OP for raising the subject.

Have you tried right-alt instead of left?

Tried it just now, same result.Triaxx2 wrote:Have you tried right-alt instead of left?
If you can alt-tab out without disengaging SETA, can you send me your profile file for me to try please? PM me for an email address.
Another solution that I haven't tried yet is to use "Macro Toolworks" to change focus without "officially" pressing any keys. That said I'd still need to press a key to do it, but it would be "eaten" by MT.

Sorry for hijacking the thread but in my game, whenever I press and hold Strafe buttons (a,s,w,d) the ships always performs a full brake, I have tried removing the controls for all strafe buttons and re-added them to no effect. IIRC, the last time I played (2 years ago) this does not happen. Anyone know why?

Yes got it working! The option in there is "Run game in background" with no mention of SETA. But of course it is required. Left alt is not good enough, it needs to be right alt. So in my case I'd need to swap my video enhancement goggles back to the default, left tab. Thanks for your help!Slashman wrote:If you look in the options IIRC, there is actually a toggle for making SETA stay engaged while alt-tabbing. Check the gameplay settings and you should find it.
As others have said though, use at your own risk.

I found this out after a lot of trial and error: Bind alt and tab to the video enhancement goggles key, make sure they're not bound to anything else , and now whenever you alt tab seta should continue running. It works because the video enhancement button is the only button that doesn't disable seta.
The same method works if you want to use steam overlay while in game and leave seta running while you use it. Just change your steam overlay shortcut to something different, then bind the keys you use for the shortcut in the control menu to use the video enhancement button then change the overlay shortcut back.
