There is an in game chat window for X-universe players. Press F1 and as long as you have an internet connection a chat window will pop up where you can talk to other players in real time who are also playing the game. Make sure you give the proper permission to your firewall to open a port for the particular X game your playing.

The easy way to learn the game now that the chat window has been made a standard part of the X Franchise is to leave the chat window open and casually read what other people are talking about as you play the game.

You can get the news on the best trade runs, advice on equipping ships, hear about epic battles, read the stories of dead is dead players as they unfold in real time or just talk about earthly matters with someone halfway around the planet. You can do all the things you can do in a simple chat room.

How to use:
Press F1 to open the chat window or whatever key you have reassighned to toggle the chat menu on and off. Just click on the chat window, select your language, wait for the room to open and type your message and press ENTER. Click on the extras tab and you can enter words that will be highlighted in red, blue, green, etc.. so that you can easially read conversations your interested in as they occur. Press F1 again to close the in game chat window or press the X in the upper right hand corner. Press the - sighn to minimize the window into a ticker that you can place where you want on the screen and read when you want.

So next time your stuck and need some help or want a cool new way to do things press F1 and ask.

I hope this helps.

Respectfully, Reeves
The skunk really is a bare bones model. It doesn't even have a GPS to highlight the way. Or targeting software MK 2 to allow target selection and painting from the sector map. It lacks a Trading System Extention to show prices in the sector you are in. The lack of satellites in rebirth is also annoying to the trader/pirate looking for a mark.

There is no ingame chat function in any X-game. If you have a chat function then you're using a third-party program. And unless you share the name of the program with us your post is not very helpful.

Or do I misunderstand your post and it's more an idea for XR?

It's satire. There is no in game chat function in the current version. Such satire is to inspire thought.

Confusing and not very helpful to all the new players here. You could've at some point made it clear in your initial post that it was 'satire'. Instead, you have a first post that every new player will read, ignore the rest of the posts, and then ask at the bottom of the thread how to activate it. At which point, they'll feel stupid when told it's all a big joke. Nice going. :P
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

dillpickle pointed out a useful tool. That's a nice addition to the X universe. If only Egosoft would of thought of it first. Perhaps that script will be sighned ASAFP and improved to be a live chat with all the people playing the game at any given time.

Untill such innovation I will answer any question about X3 Terran Conflict you want on this thread.

I'll also answer any question on X3 Rebirth based on my experience with the game... although such experiences are based on artistic licence, and what the community has asked of Egosoft.

Because this is a topic on Newbie help. Ask away! Note that I'm biased as to playing a pirate. So sometimes my navigational directions will slam you into the nearest asteroid. But for non navigational suggestions I can offer you some insight that can help you make some easy credits. With my help you can move from gas station attendent (tradeing E cells) to Mega-Most wanted Criminal in no time.

The first 15 minites of Rebirth is the tutorial level. You start out as a gas station attendent and learn how to do your first profitable trade to give you 100 credits from selling E cells. Then you learn how to scavenge and earn another 200 credits. After that the pirates attack and you have to defend the SPP M from certain death while learning how to fight. After killing the nurfed pirates you are given 700 credits as a reward and dock at a tradeing post where you learn how to upgrade your ships engines and rudder. It is there you will see a nice cutscene and are nearly killed by an assassin. Upon chaseing the assassin you discover a destroyed gate and your first major plot contact. A brilliant engineer who needs Advanced Computer parts to get the gate back online. He points out a pirate patrol that most likely has what you need. After some unsucessful attempts and re loads you manage to kill off the scouts and capture the TS with the parts and deliver them to the engineer. Another cutscene shows droids re-activating the gate consumeing the TS in the process, but the gate is unstable.

You hurry through the gate and are transported to a solar system far far away. The gate goes offline secounds after you exit the other side of the gate electrical arching shoots across the space where the vortex used to be... You are now in the Rebirth universe. A large solar system sits in front of you linked together by trade lanes. A passerby tells you the sequence to activate the trade lane and how to drop out in an emergency. You enter the Trade lane, rapidly accelerating to half the speed of light, and head towards the inner planets... Trade lane rings blow past you as you speed on towards a large blue and green planet.

It lacks a Trading System Extention to show prices in the sector you are in. The lack of satellites in rebirth is also annoying to the trader/pirate looking for a mark.

If you are on Steam then "technically" you do have in-game chat with Vanilla X courtesy of the Steam overlay... at least I think you do anyway :P

EDIT: BTW where is the Maybe/Don't Care option(s) ;)

Yes, the Steam chat function works perfectly well while playing TC.

If you're not using Steam, you can use the in-game chat client provided by the link above.

If you're not using Steam and don't want to mod your game, then just run a third-party chat program like irc, AIM, or MSN in the background.

Another option is to host or join a livestream session.

Getting people to talk with is an entirely different matter. If you're using Steam, you can just join the X-Universe group and odds are you'll find plenty of people to talk to and at least one person actually playing the game at any given time.

With any other method you'll have to go out and find people to talk with yourself. The easiest way would be to just ask on the forums, maybe even start your own IRC chat for people that want to talk while playing X.
Admitting you have a problem is the first step in figuring out how to make it worse.

I can host a chat link just for X-universe players on my server. Although I would much prefer Egosoft did this since I ususally shut down while I'm sleeping to save power. It would be better if the chat client was built into the game. With say a patch. And the client was hosted by a dedicated server. A simple laptop can host a chatroom.

I'm glad to see some useful stuff I didn't know come out of this. I didn't know about the steam chat thing.

But as I said... It would look better if Egosoft were to patch a chat feature in so newbie players could talk in game and not have the fans make a workaround. The chat feature would go well with the upload stats.

x: rebirth...
I'm going to try some of your suggestions and see if I can ask someone in chat where I can get a continuum transfunctioner because I need it to repair part of the gate network that was damaged in the super nova.

I saw a bolt in my toolbox that smelled like an Argon Flux Capacitor that would aleviate the need for a continuum transfunctioner but when I plugged it in I shorted out the control crystal for the gate and now I need a new control crystal that can handle the larger short burst current the flux capacitor places on the main board of the cold fusion relay emitter.

If I don't get a control crystal with a large enough current capacity the cold fusion relay emitter will not fire electrons with the proper dark matter signiture and any ship entering the gate will not be re-assembled on the other side resulting in the death of anyone brave enough to venture through.

So it is very important that I get my claws on a large enough control crystal asap even if it comes from another gate somewhere. We can't repair them all.
