made an easy to use LAA flag patcher (2GB limit removal)

Post by ouch »

Just extract it next to your X3TC.exe, double click it. Then click patch and your done.

Patcher will automatically create a backup for you called X3TC.exe.BAK in case you want to go back to the original again.

I made this so people wouldn't have to screw around with dev tools just to get there game to work.

all it does is change the byte at 136 from 03 to 23 (all numbers are in hex)

NOTE: Because this is just patching the games header. The patcher does not do a CRC check to make sure that X3TC is actually 2.5. This is because if egosoft releases a new version there is a pretty good chance that the patch location will not be changed. In other words, this patch should work on future and past versions. The patcher does do a check to make sure that the byte it's patching at 136 (hex) is actually 03 (hex) before writing anything to the exe however.

Heres the gigantic 17k download:

Please fix the AI Egosoft! I'm sick of losing ships(doesn't matter what class) when they fly into what they are attacking! This occurs even if the object is stationary and doesn't have any protrusions.(Like a pirate base) It's just sad, and it totally ruins the entire concept of the series!

I'm guessing this doesn't work with Steam versions... tried it and it said "Wrong filesize or already patched". I had added the LAA flag with CFF Explorer, but I switched it back. I suppose it did not return to the original file size....

Some explanation about what your talking about might help some people.

Exactly what problem is this fixing and why ?

Head over to the Tech Support forum and read the first page of issues with 64 bit systems and the 2.5 patch.

Ok, noted. I havent run it myself yet since upgrading to 2.5.

My comment still stands though.

The title is meaningless to most people and the description in the OP tells people nothing.

Suggested thread title : "[Bugfix] Fix for v2.5 freezes and slowdown for Vista 4gb ram users".

The OP should include a description of the problem, so people can easily see if they have this problem or not.

Edit : My Vista 64 Ultimate seems to be working fine.

I've updated the app to remove the file size check. I forgot about that one. :)

So download it again and try it. It should work unless steam alters the file header. If it doesn't work let me know. All I need is someone to upload the steam version of the exe And I can check it out and make a simular patcher specificly for that one if needed.

But yeah, If your not having enough problems with severe stuttering to go looking for a solution. Then you probably should not patch your game as egosoft has said that thier reason for not including LAA this time around was some people were having problems with it.

Careful there. This is not a bug fix. It just reinstate a feature that is not meant for 32 bit applications and proved not to work for everyone in 2.1.

Besides, it could work not only for Vista 4gb ram users, it could potencially work for any user with more than 2gb of RAM.

So, I preffer the original title. For those who already investigated enough and are looking for a quick edit of the LAA flag, the title is sufficiently explicit.

Point taken.

But why make it so hard for people to find ?

With the right title, they will come straight to the fix, instead of wasting a lot of time searching for it.

It needs to be on a sticky thread list somewhere too.

Because it should only be used after you report your issue on the Technical Support forum and you find no other solution. And then, it will be probably suggested to reset the LAA flag in the exe file.

I think this belongs more in the Technical support forum rather than S&M anyways.

If it helps you, I noticed stuttering ingame after installing 2.5 and then remembered that the changelog said something about the 2GB limit, then I found this thread here:
http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php? ... c&start=30

and went right to this place.

Sooo... quite some searching was needed to find this thread and I'd prolly not have been searching for something like 'LAA flag" etc.

Thats my point. No-one knows what LAA is and will never be looking for it. Hence this thread will always be the end result of a long search, and it neednt be.

I added "(2GB limit removal)" to the tittle. Hows that? Will that get you off my ass apricotslice? lol

That will do nicely, thanks.

I'd also suggest you submit it to the sticky thread for downloads. Its not technically a mod, but its something people should be able to find easy. If theres no section for it, I'll push for one to be created. :)

Oddly enough, it seems that the Steam version no longer functions as of 2.5 when re-enabling the LAA flag either with your patch or with CFF Explorer. I was able to edit it myself without issue prior to 2.5.

Do you know if your patch works with the Steam version?

steam users should see this thread:

http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php? ... highlight=

Just use this patcher in place of the CFF explorer thing where mentioned.

Outstanding! 2.5 was un-playable on my win7 64 bit system. With the patch it runs great.

Thanks :)

Short question: Do I get a *modified* tag?

Thanks in advance and thanks for the *patch*! :)

This has nothing to do with scripting, so no "modified" tag.
This is editing the executable for the game.
