Convoy Control
So you're flying an M2 with a leisurely top speed of 60 m/s.
You accept a convoy escort mission and find out that all the TS you are supposed to protect have a top speed of 80+ m/s.
You fail the mission.
The freighters get eaten because they leave you in the dust - their valiant (if mobility challenged) protector.
Now if *I* was a TS pilot I'd think twice about that.
Race to the destination, trying to shake fighters and corvettes... with a freighter.
Or... take my foot off the pedal and stay in the big fat shadow of an escorting destroyer...
Tough decision.
- This script adds one Hotkey.
- Press it while targeting any of the convoy ships to initiate the communication link.
Once the link is established you can identify the convoy ships on the sector map.
A "+" for the formation leader and a "-" for the other freighters.
All convoy ships voluntarily lower their speed to a maximum of 90 % of your formation.
If you fly a fast M6 but have an M2 currently following you, the speed of the M2 will be used. - If you have nothing or a non-convoy ship targeted, the hotkey will automatically target the convoy formation leader if one is present in the sector.
- Press the hotkey if you have any convoy ship targeted and you signal the leader to wait.
This lets all stragglers catch up and prevents the convoy losing cohesion.
Repeating this command will cancel the request.
Note that the captain may choose to completely ignore you if he's too busy getting his ship shot to pieces so try to avoid that.
If the captain gets restless and turns on his autopilot again, you will be notified.
