everything maxed, this game is all about 2 fast cores, fast ram, and raid-0. GPU needs to be good, but not the best.

DDR2: OCZ flexII w/integrated aluminum water block heat spreaders> Thermaltake Aluminum 120.1 radiator> Thermaltake L500 pump w/reservoir. This loop has to be all aluminum due to the rams integrated heatsinks.

Hi!
Slighty off-topic (not performance related post) but still linked to the demo...
Is it possible to use it as a Windows screen saver?
Thanks for your help. :)

Not shure why the gfx card says it has that much memory, it is in fact the 384mb xfx 9600gso xxx, The game plays at around about the same give or take a few fps.

:D

Hi,

I did a bit of testing with various configs.

Hardware tested:
Intel E6600 2.4GHz, stock and overclocked
Intel E8500 3.11GHz, stock and overclocked
Corsair 3GB RAM DDR2-533
Corsair 4GB RAM DDR2-800

Constant:
Asus P5W DH Deluxe motherboard (975X chipset), BIOS 2801
MSI Nvidia GTX 280-OC graphics card

First I must apologize that I've ran some tests at different settings of AA and AF. I've been testing graphic settings, didn't find they mattered much with a GTX 280 (and actually I am getting better fps with all on that with all off), and I sometimes forgot to put them back to max for the next tests, and am too lazy to redo them.

The GTX-280 seems to have enough horsepower to offset any graphics cards issues, so my tests focused on trying to have a playable game by messing with the CPU and RAM.

E6600 2.4GHz
DDR2-533
DRAM Freq: 267

Didn't want to waste too much time finding the correct cpu and ram voltages on the E6600 and old 533 RAM to see how far I could in terms of dram and cpu freq. Here are some better numbers:

A bit worse but still in the same ballpark. Of course, rOBvAN ran his test at 1920x1080 but I cannot do that with my 1600x1200 native LCD, my resolution does about 8% less pixels.

Anyway, I've tried some of my saves, and the places where I was flying in a quiet sector at 17-20 fps I am literally doing 30+. Heck, I was doing 7fps with SETA on the E6600 at stock speed, I am doing 30+ now with the OC'ed E8500. System is rock stable, my cores go to 38-41° max, but I also have Noctua ventirad. Now, if only Egosoft would rewrite the Properties menu :).

So in short going from an E6600 to an E8500 was a good move, good enough to wait a few months for the i7 prices to go down. That first "Trade" scene is totally watchable now, the drop to 21fps lasts like a second when the camera shows that station right before the big ship blows up.

These are with my actual play settings (which include forced vsync ON) so although the #s don't look phenomenally higher, the game runs MUCH more smoothly on the Q6600. More grunt per core for handling all the Universe background processing, and more cores for offloading system/driver processes.

And I haven't OCed it yet. :)

Hello,

I wanted to ask if the TAGES copy protection is also present in the rolling demo?

IIRC, one of the older demos contained the copy protection the full game used.

Thanks!

Post by tsineath »

ok so i ran the benchmark test on the demo and in the end i got and average of almost 15 FPS. so from what ive seen in the forums is that this is not a good sign and the game would not likely run very good on my computer. so is this true?

and also how can i post the results from the file on here sence i have never done that before i dont know?

Turn the graphics settings down and try again.

That said, the benchmark does focus on graphics and doesn't really show the level of load placed on your CPU by the full game. Yours meets the minimum requirements but no more than that and may struggle under some circumstances.

Nice improvements in the average framerate.

I would rather play at 1400 by 1050 maintaining that aspect ratio on the monitor but the new graphics card does not list it in the supported resolutions. In X2 it was still the case that playing at 1680 by 1050 made everything look fatter, distorted the aspect ratio, it seems this is no longer the case in X3TC. I am not sure about X3. In any case there seems to be no reason to play at a non-widescreen aspect ratio in X3TC.
