Not a lot of difference really.

In-game with medium textures I rarely see even 30fps - CPU-limited, methinks!

Very nice demo. Some of those stations and ships aren't in the game though, are they?

I LOVED the part where the ships chase each other through the Torus.

The 12.0 min was really disappointing, and it happened right at the point where a lot of PPC bolts are flying through the sky. Those damn PPC bolts have been killing X performance since X2. :(

Edit : Btw, your program seems to take CPU speed at face value. "Oh, it's a Q6600? That runs at 2.4 Ghz!" Because mine is running at 3.0 Ghz.

and all others have 40?
they have had almost 1000 years to terraform Aldrin, why are they all still sitting around a giant rock?

This seems not good compared to other people with similar specs, any suggestions would be welcome. :?

This thread is likely to be very busy just with posts of peoples benchmarks. If you notice that your results are particularly poor compared with people with similar specifications and settings, I'd suggest heading over to the Tech. Support forum and explaining the issue along with a DXDiag.

Well, it's not that bad, I'd be happy if the game really ran this well on my PC...
Looks like it's time for me to buy a new computer, although this isn't that old.
Also, here's the results with minimum graphics:

Well, it's bit better but not worth the complete loss in graphics quality.
I'd rather play Reunion with full graphics than TC looking like this.

Noticable slowdowns in the normal game (<20fps) are fairly rare, problematic slowdowns (<10fps) are extremely rare.
I have more problems with it freezing up from time to time, a problem I traced to HDD activity - Vista reading my HDD freezes the game.

Lowest framerate is when the Odysseus has its first PPC duel with the Titan. It hits rock bottom when the Titan explodes, but the same problem isn't present when the Odysseus explodes in the fight segment - that ran at ~25 fps.

Oh and the card only has 768MB onboard memory. It seems to draw the rest from main memory.

Still perfectly playable though :)

Dang. The 422 MB file is corrupt. *sigh* Trying again.

...................................................................

Ok, got it downloaded and installed. Very nicely done! Now, when I go to run the demo, the default settings does not have a check in the box for anisotropic filtering, whereas the game default does have it checked - 8X. Also, the demo does not have a check in the boxes for "More Dynamic Light Sources" and "Ship Colour Variations" whereas they are checked in the default settings of the game. I changed these settings in the demo to match the game. Results are below:

Code: Select all

--------------------------
   X3 - Terran Conflict
--------------------------
Game Version: 1.2.0.0

Operating System:	Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp.080413-2111)
DirectX Version:	DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Graphics Card Info:	Radeon X1900 CrossFire Edition [512 MB] Driver: 6.14.0010.6879
CPU Info: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz (2 CPUs)
Usable System Memory:	2048 MB

Video Settings During Benchmark:
	Screen Resolution:	1280 x 1024 * [32], fullscreen
	Using Shader Profile:	3.0
	Antialias Mode: 4x
	Anisotropic Mode:	8x

Graphics & Shader Settings:
	Texture Quality:	high
	Shader Quality: high
	High Quality Bumpmaps:	enabled
	Environment Mapping:	enabled
	Glow Filter: enabled
	Ship Color Variations:	enabled
	More Dynamic Lights:	enabled
	Used Vertexsize:	28 bytes

Framerates
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scene "Trade" 15.3 average fps 3.0 minimum fps 32.0 maximum fps
Scene "Fight" 31.6 average fps 10.0 minimum fps 82.0 maximum fps
Scene "Build" 33.2 average fps 13.0 minimum fps 53.0 maximum fps
Scene "Think" 16.6 average fps 10.0 minimum fps 27.0 maximum fps

Overall average framerate: 24.2 fps
The figures actually match the game fairly well in performance. After setting the rolling demo back to it's original default settings, this is what I get now:

Code: Select all

--------------------------
   X3 - Terran Conflict
--------------------------
Game Version: 1.2.0.0

Operating System:	Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp.080413-2111)
DirectX Version:	DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Graphics Card Info:	Radeon X1900 CrossFire Edition [512 MB] Driver: 6.14.0010.6879
CPU Info: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz (2 CPUs)
Usable System Memory:	2048 MB

Video Settings During Benchmark:
	Screen Resolution:	1280 x 1024 * [32], fullscreen
	Using Shader Profile:	3.0
	Antialias Mode: 4x
	Anisotropic Mode:	NONE

Graphics & Shader Settings:
	Texture Quality:	high
	Shader Quality: high
	High Quality Bumpmaps:	enabled
	Environment Mapping:	enabled
	Glow Filter: enabled
	Ship Color Variations:	disabled
	More Dynamic Lights:	disabled
	Used Vertexsize:	28 bytes

Framerates
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scene "Trade" 15.4 average fps 2.0 minimum fps 33.0 maximum fps
Scene "Fight" 32.1 average fps 10.0 minimum fps 83.0 maximum fps
Scene "Build" 39.7 average fps 23.0 minimum fps 62.0 maximum fps
Scene "Think" 18.3 average fps 10.0 minimum fps 28.0 maximum fps

Overall average framerate: 26.4 fps
Well, it looks like they're fairly close. I wonder why the game would have different default settings than the rolling demo? Would I be correct in my assumption that if I tweak the settings on the rolling demo and get better FPS, that I can apply these same tweaks to the game and get similar results?

Another question. Is there a laymen's guide to what the specifics of each setting are? For example, anisotropic filtering. I have no idea what that does and why it's set to 8X. I'd really like to have a short and sweet cheat sheet of what each of these settings translate into in the actual game.

EDIT:
Whoa. That was freaky. I just took the check out of the box for Antialiasing (it was set to 4X), changed the texture quality and shader quality to medium and put a check in the box for "automatic quality control". Upon hitting the start button, my machine rebooted. When windows came back up, crossfire had been de-activated. I shut down and rebooted and got a message that "windows has just recovered from a serious error". That wasn't very much fun.

EDIT 2:
WHOO HOO! I get the loser award with the lowest overall average FPS.

EDIT 3:
Nevermind on the cheat sheet. I read the manual. Duh!
