Maybe you just automatically rip out the cooling units for the main Xenon computer, and put in windows (the clear see-through stuff, not the OS), life support, a cockpit, comms, artificial gravity, targeting software, etc...SVAndrei wrote:Here's a good one: If the ship is commanded by a Computer, how come it has a cockpit? That is why i never use Xenon ships as personal ships.
yeah im sure you doMaybe you just automatically rip out the cooling units for the main Xenon computer, and put in windows (the clear see-through stuff, not the OS), life support, a cockpit, comms, artificial gravity, targeting software, etc...
i read i another post that the xenon dont have enough self awareness to realize they dont need a cockpitHere's a good one: If the ship is commanded by a Computer, how come it has a cockpit? I doubt the Xenon just put it in there just in case their ship gets captured.
And you do all his while out in your space suit, and in a few seconds too? With no assistance from a shipyard, as well.nman wrote:Maybe you just automatically rip out the cooling units for the main Xenon computer, and put in windows (the clear see-through stuff, not the OS), life support, a cockpit, comms, artificial gravity, targeting software, etc...SVAndrei wrote:Here's a good one: If the ship is commanded by a Computer, how come it has a cockpit? wowWindows XP -> Windows Vista -> Skynet -> Xenon1.0 -> Xenon OS we know today.
Xenon was a self-aware OS designed to run advanced autopilot operations on par with human pilots that went wrong, killing its creators and replicating itself into the secret prototype ships we now identify as Xenon, which were the ships the original tests of the OS were conducted in.
Xenon knows exactly what materials are required to build each ship, and it also contains information on how to make advanced materials such as alloys, which were stored in data banks in the original prototypes.
Incidentally, Xenon is a single entity, a computer operating system, thus saying 'The Xenon' is a bit of a grammatical faux pass.
The reason Xenon ships all have cockpits is because the OS was designed to operate with one, an attribute Xenon has not 'bred' out yet. In fact, Xenon builds its ships to the exact same blueprint that it 'ran away' with, hence all ships are equipped with fully functional cockpits.
Also, despite not having had a human in their ships for many jazuras, every Xenon ship is built with fully functioning space suits, which were included in the original blueprints for the Xenon test ships. What the opening poster describes is one of these suits being ejected by Xenon itself, which was built with automatic pilot ejection upon system failure/damage etc.
The suit is pressurized with oxygen, hence the reason it seems to maintain its shape even in space.
You know you have way too much spare time when you make the effort to think things like this through thoroughly.
I've never quite understood that, roughly how long ago in years (or jazuras if you prefer) did this event occur, relative to the time period of X2/X3? And why are the goner beliefs regarded with such suspicion, despite the overwhelming evidence for earths existence (The AP Gunner, and more Xenon than you can shake a stick at!)?BeavelGuy wrote:its been a while since I played the first game...
if so it would make sense to say that the Xenon havent quite realised that cockpits arent technically required in spacecraft, although you would think that anything they designed from the ground up would have omitted themSpoilerShowbut dont the Xenon have their roots in the original terraformer fleet sent out by the Earth to prepare planets for colonisation, which subsequently went rogue, and started a war with Earth (which was only saved by Nathan R. Gunne's last-ditch feint drawing the terraformer fleet through a jumpgate into the current X universe, spawning the argon race and the goner religion)?maybe all xenon ships are based on the work of their own designers... or maybe Egosoft just thought it would be cool to let us fly them
