X2 Soundtracks, the guide + Map

Post by terrabyte » Wed, 15. Jun 05, 00:31

  • I kept seeing topic's here where fans wanted to use their own music for some sectors and I didn’t like the Khaak music in PE, so I also decided to change it, I searched the forum until I found the track that was responsible. In my endeavours to discover the ways of the x2 soundtracks, I fell upon some soundtrack topics that mentioned the diagonal nature of the tracks in relation to the map, so I started to plot the soundtracks across the universe, and found this to be true.

Many thanks to other posters for mapping enough of the tracks to get me started, and for the clue of the diagonal relationship, so for all those who wish to change their x2 sector music preferences, here is the soundtracks of the x2 universe.

    The MP3s are located in the "C:\Program Files\EGOSOFT\X2 - The Threat\soundtrack" folder

    or

"c:\Program Files\Enlight\X2 - The Threat\\soundtrack" folder for the US version.

    Intro and Start menu Tracks

    00005.mp3 - Deep Silver
    00007.mp3 - Menu Intro
    00009.mp3 - Nividia
    00012.mp3 - Factory Building
    00013.mp3 - The end
    00014.mp3 - Docking Music
    00015.mp3 - X2 Installing Music
    00016.mp3 - Sector Music?

Tracks 00019 to 00040 are sector tracks, arranged in a very structured diagonal way where for example CBNW, Power Circle and Queens Space have the same track number 00032.mp3. The post Khaak track for PE and the Khaak sectors is 06201.mp3, and out of interest the original PE track was 00026.mp3.

If you replace the 06201 track with another one the Khaak sectors will play the new track as well.
    • 00019 to 00040 + 06201 are sector tracks, arranged in diagonal pattern

01001 to 01005 are for hostile situations and...

02001 to 02006 seem to be internal station music.

03001 to 03004 are used for the main menu.

06004.mp3 to 06300.mp3 are Cut scenes, Plot music e.g. 06205.mp3 Kyle’s Logbook (Khaak Recording) and 06300.mp3 – Bret’s Funeral (haunting).
    Visual Update
I decided to add to it to make the music per sector more visual, so I used Warbird’s spreadsheet map of the sectors, so you can see at a glance what sector, plays which track, hope this helps.

It can be downloaded from this link The Soundtracks Spreadsheet Map

In the end I chose 03004.mp3 as my favourite for PE, as it seems to suit my patrolling fleet of M2s that serves as my military base.

03001 to 03004 are used for the main menu. (I use this for PE)

You've got the internal stations music line twice.
Very useful, thanks, now I can start changing the music again like I had in my last install, but couldn't be bothered to work out what was what.

Congratulations.

I have been waiting for someone to do this, so I can change more than just the combat music. (I have been too idle to do it myself!)

Many thanks :D

Try jumping diagonally, on the same path and you will hear the same track, it makes sense the way it was done, as most jumping or travelling will be NSEW , so the tracks would appear random during most travel, and it was a neat way to apportion 23 tracks across the sectors.
