[Video] Full Walkthrough on Adding a Custom Capital Ship

Post by XenonArchitect7 » Sun, 21. Feb 21, 03:16

I realize that this is many years too late, but today I was demonstrating the process of importing a ship model into X3AP for a friend and I went ahead and recorded it. I went through the full process of adding a functioning M1 carrier into the game starting with an external ship model. PLEASE NOTE that while you can use this to add ships to your personal X3AP, you MUST get permission from the original artist for any ships you use if you plan to release them in a mod. The ship I used to demonstrate in this video is from Aryx's "Machine Shipset" mod for Stellaris. Please don't ask for a download link.

Software Used:
- 3D Object converter: http://3doc.i3dconverter.com/index.html
- Gimp (Photoshop works too although you will need DDS plugin I think)
- Autodesk 3DS MAX 2010 or greater
- DBOX2: viewtopic.php?p=2923591
- X3 Editor 2: viewtopic.php?t=244283
- Notepad++, Sublime Text, or some other advanced text editor

Please use this thread (not the video) for questions and troubleshooting. There are a lot of areas that can go wrong throughout the process.

Also, if anyone is able to make use of this video, please let me know the timestamps of critical moments so that I can document them in this post.
