John Carmack created Doom, Quake, sort of popularized FPS games as we know it. Was interviewed by Lex Fridman and stated his next project, life's project, is to create AGI. It's a great conversation and tbh AGI is going to be here, it's going to change a lot and this video may seem long, but we're going to be talking about this for years and years and still not have all of the answers. I'll share the X3: TC trailer then the Carmack interview linked at the point he starts discussing AGI:

Its not the "AGI from X3". AGI is a term referring to a generalised AI. AI in computer science is a term referring to any software capable of solving a specific problem. AGI in contrast is a software that is capable of learning how to solve problems it has not been designed to solve without developers interfering.Blitz4 wrote: ↑Mon, 6. AGI is definitely not "going to be here", as it is a problem completely different from the machine learning AI algorithms we have right now.

Moved over to Off Topic, since it isn't actually about anything in the game.

Of all of the people in the world that I've interacted with regarding this topic and have presented me information around it. You're the only one to break it down as such. Thank you.RedFlashyKitten wrote: ↑Mon, 6. Feb 23, 15:41Its not the "AGI from X3". AGI is a term referring to a generalised AI. I searched and searched and the only community that is even interested in this topic is Linus Tech Tips. It may do the world some good if you caroused over to the forums there and informed some lost souls.

Heh, if you ever play X Rebirth and regularly engage the NPCs in 'minitalk' conversations to get trade discounts, better crew or station agents, then you will probably have many opportunities to be lectured in-depth about the differences between AI and AGI. It's all in the game files!
