I *knew* what the answer was as after the second attempt... Usually that means I strike out, or just scrape in but, just this once...

“Man, my poor head is battered,” Ed said.

“That explains its unusual shape,” Styanar said, grinning openly now. “Although it does little to illuminate just why your jowls are so flaccid or why you have quite so many chins.”

“I…” Had she just called him fat? “I am just a different species, that’s all.”

“Well nature sure does have a sense of humour then,” Styanar said. “Shall we go inside? It’d not be a good idea for me to be spotted by others.”

I'd no idea either it was a word, @X2-Illuminatus (UK English.) - I assume it's in more popular usage across the pond.

I can find it strange sometimes seeing these five letter words written down.

that escaped pond containment.
It has slipped into our vocabulary as an adjective and a noun used colloquially.

I feel some of Merriam-Websters online definitions could be improved for clarity.

It's a word I know, and sometimes use. For example

I thought the questioning was on some of the guess words and not the target word itself.

I had mentioned some of those attempted words but edited the respose to remove them a few minutes after posting.

@berth, thanks for the context given to yesterday's word, and I do indeed use it, but seeing it in isolation totally threw me.
