Anyone recognise this taskbar icon - Resolved.

Post by exogenesis » Mon, 7. Feb 22, 21:30

Wasn't sure whether to put this in Tech.Support forum or not...

Recently I've been badgered by some program that runs just after, or some time after, I start X4 & only X4.

It puts the below icon very briefly on the task bar & causes X4 to minimise,
which is annoying if I have walked away wanting X4 to run for a while on it's own :x

Drew the icon by hand cos even though it's happened many times,
it's so quick I've not yet managed to screen-shot it (so it might not be 100% accurate).

Don't think it's Steam related, maybe Windows Defender or something ?

Any clues ?

Have not seen it before. Doesn't look like any steam or windows thing I have seen.

Maybe if you look in task manager process tab it will be there, the processes sometimes have an icon. Or else, while starting X4 you may see a process apart from the game appear suddenly near the top if sorted by CPU or memory use?

Looks like the Unifying Software logo from Logitech.

Spot on, thanks !

hopefully I've tracked it down on disc & killed it...

Weird thing is couldn't find 'Unifying' anywhere
think it might be also to do with RunNE.exe, which is now gone,
had to uninstall 'Logitech Options', will soon see if it happens anymore...
Maybe if you look in task manager process tab it will be there
did look, but it's too fleeting to show up,
think maybe I got control of it now :)

cheers

If I have something like that happening too quick to make it out on screen, I use a screen recorder in my case Action! But there are several free ones that would do the job, for example Bandicam. Once recorded, just play the video back and use pause to see what it is.

Did think of doing that, but it was far too much effort :D

I use the Device Manager, Task Manager and Startup Manager tools to try to control what runs on my system and when. I'm not always successful as there are some damn devious little unnecessary apps lurking out there that seem to load from driver suites and hardware installation/control apps.

Yes, I've tried that many times in the past, but always found it somewhat 'fiddly'.

Particularly used the 'services dialog' auto-->manual change to stop things running automatically
(& stop them running up other apps).

For truly unwanted apps I've always found it easier to (try to) eridicate them completely from my PC,
but some keep coming back...
