The original game was awesome, I hope this remake won't be messed up. then again, can't say I think much of the reveal trailer. Still fingers crossed it will be good.

One thing I did notice that was missing, is any mention of EA, and they must be involved in it as they hold the rights to make any and all Star Wars games.

Re: Knights of the Old Republic remake announced
Looks like the dev behind this, Aspyr, is using the old IP of LucasArts, not anything EA currently has licensed.
Of course, notably absent from Sony's announcement is the PC launch as well. https://www.aspyr.com/starwars/ so at least more than 10 people will be able to play this game.
It'll be interesting to see what their plans are for it, none the less.

Re: Knights of the Old Republic remake announced
Playstation? Is the article origin indicative that it's intended for PC release, or is this a PS thing as indicated by location of annoucement.
Re: Knights of the Old Republic remake announced
It's planned to be both PC and Playstation, I think. Not likely to be XBox for obvious reasons, though.
Re: Knights of the Old Republic remake announced
Sony is trying to obfuscate the announcement cuz they're losing their ass on PS5 game sales. But on the devs website it does indeed say it's coming to the PC as well.

It will be a remake, not remaster, so they will have a lot of opportunities to mess up.matthewfarmery wrote: ↑Fri, 10. Sep 21, 15:23The original game was awesome, I hope this remake won't be messed up. then again, can't say I think much of the reveal trailer. Still fingers crossed it will be good.
Especially with the story - think KOTOR, but will Revan drinking green titty monster milk on a remote planet
Re: Knights of the Old Republic remake announced
If it's on the PC release, then awesome. However, also... I'm not cynical much, but modern day gaming has too many cockups to have faith this won't be anything other than what I hope for

I have had the same profile pic for a LONG time now and I assume it will allready give away how I feel about this project.

Re: Knights of the Old Republic remake announced
Yeah, this is true, I hope it won't be messed up still, but if the game comes out too early, and has a bad story, its seems that a few remakes haven't hit the nail on the head. While the original games still reign supreme. At least EA doesn't seem to have anything to do with it, so there is hope, even if that hope isn't that high.mr.WHO wrote: ↑Fri, 10. Was paying Swtor for some time but got bored. This may be actually away to get back into that genre.

Aparently some roaring feminist has been hired to re-write KOTOR.
Get ready for a lot of green titty milk monster scenes, not to mention there is a loads of great female characters to ruin too.
They'll most probably swap Bastila, Kreia and many other for bland Rey-like clones.
Why, for the love of God, they didn't aimed for pure remaster with just engine and GUI remake (like EA did with Mass Effect 1) is beyond me.

Re: Knights of the Old Republic remake announced
This is absolute nonsense and people yelling about this are everything that's wrong with modern gaming culture. Christ. One of the writers on the remake is a woman who's a feminist and liked the new movies, and the toxic dregs of gaming culture all lose their goddamn minds and head off to yell at her on Twitter based on absolutely nothing. Firstly, she's written for a bunch of games including Call of Duty, Spider-Man and Ratchet and Clank, and a bunch of other stuff including Rick and Morty, none of which have been "ruined". Secondly, the original KotOR was pretty damn progressive by the standards of 2003 and includes exactly the sort of thing the worst bits of the internet get upset by, like a gay character and the women in major story roles you point out, so suggesting that something is changing is nonsense. Thirdly, Bastila literally voices the trailer! As for why it's a remake, the engine and gameplay have aged a lot worse than even Mass Effect 1; the minor texture and lighting brush-up and slight gameplay tweaks ME1 got is not going to hack it.mr.WHO wrote: ↑Sat, 11. But on the other hand, there is cause for concern, recent games, including the mass effect games, have seen their fair share of censorship, and stuff changing. If nothing changes, then OK, but the list of games getting stuff removed, even mild stuff like a shot of a woman's behind (one of the mass effect games) now removed in their remaster. The list goes on. Can't say I ike this new direction of game censorship. So in that regard, it could very well happen in this game.

This is the scene in question for those interested. It is a design decision not censorship. If you want to make the point that games these days are less sexualized I highly recommand you go to steam and look up the sexual content tag. There is a giant flood of porn games for your pleasure.matthewfarmery wrote: ↑Sat, 11. Re: Knights of the Old Republic remake announced
I think if we talk too much about censorship we going to slide off topic, but I was just making a point that there been a few games that have been altered in some regard. So in that respect, I could very well see a change in Knights of the Old Republic remake, because it seems to be the way things are sliding towards. So again, I think there is cause for concern. As many of the big publisher do seem to be bending over backwards these days.clakclak wrote: ↑Sat, 11. Sep 21, 14:32This is the scene in question for those interested. I guess back on topic, we will have to wait and see how this game turns out, I'm still glad that EA doesn't seem to have their name on this, so that gives me some hope, and they not done a good job with the SW license in general.

Re: Knights of the Old Republic remake announced
Good grief, changing a camera angle that completely unnecessarily and very blatantly focuses on Miranda's behind during a very serious and entirely non-sexual discussion is not censorship. Mass Effect has a bunch of vastly more explicit sex scenes which are unaltered in the remaster. If being deprived of a couple of gratuitous butt shots is the extent of what you're worried about I think the KotOR remake is going to be just fine.matthewfarmery wrote: ↑Sat, 11. I don't even know why this discussion is going down this path. Is anyone seriously shocked a RWNJ is pissed that a woman is involved with a video game project?
Bioware's name isn't on this game. Neither is EA's. The only ones that are on it are Lucas and Aspyr. Whatever is going on with ME has jack all to do with KotoR. We don't even have gameplay footage yet, just a concept teaser trailer. It's waaaaayyyy to early to start on the criticisms or worry about sillyness such as censorship from a game that was low rez and super pixilated to begin with.

Re: Knights of the Old Republic remake announced
I only brought up ME as an example, but OK, I will scrub that off the list, I do own the first game, but not the others. But still, my point is, there is a slow direction that big publishers are going in, to try and change stuff in games.
If that applies to this game, its hard to say, I can't remember if there was any scenes in this game that would need changing, but as its a remake, there is still a lot that could go wrong. or the devs could surprise us and do a good game. I just hope it doesn't get ruined and rushed like many games these days. And lastly I hope it won't be a cash grab using the name, and they release a game that is nothing like the original. FF7 remake comes to mind, Anyway, I think we should wait and get more information before we judge this game too soon.
