Looking for games with "The Expanse" setting
I'm looking for games os any genre with similar setting to The Expanse (quasi-realistic, near future) setting.
So far I see only 2 games:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/681330/Helium_Rain/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4765 ... ead_Earth/
Anyone know more games? It can be space sim, strategy, RPG, I'm open to anything.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/117 ... a_Invicta/
It’s not released yet but it has a hard sci-fi setting and a interesting premise.
https://bethesda.net/en/game/starfield
I’m guessing you might have heard of this one, again it isn’t released yet. From leaked images it seems like a hard sci-fi game, there is an oxygen meter and a leaked ship looks very belter-ish.
Sorry that I couldn’t think of any released games

We don’t know what paradise is like, but probably it’s blue magenta, flecked with pink. But even if it’s green and red-checked we should make the most of it. -Boron saying

Terra Invicta is already at the top of my wishlist
As for Starfield - it's Bethesda, so I don't have much of expectation. I'd love Skyrim in space, but we will probably get Fallout 76 in space

Re: Looking for games with "The Expanse" setting
I honestly enjoyed 76 (only when playing with a friend though) however I don’t want Starfield to be a fallout 76. Maybe because they don’t have to worry about multiplayer and the amount of time spent on the game it will be good?
Although not hard sci-fi, Planetary annihilation might be good. I own it, and it’s primarily land combat but it does have a realistic orbital mechanic and multiple planets/asteroids/ moon. It’s made by old members of total annihilation. Biggest flaw is that it isn’t nearly as fun

Eh why? They're both Bethesda, so it's at least just gonna be a coin flip. They can just follow the Microsoft pattern one great / one crap Window in alternation.
But come to think about it if that's the case I hope this one is the crap so Elderscroll 6 is the great one .

Helium Rain and Terra Invicta look like the kind of game I might be interested in. They're in wishlist, when I'm inspiride or they're on sale I'm giving them a shot.
Re: Looking for games with "The Expanse" setting
Delta V: Rings of Saturn is kinda expanse-y. Top down mining game with gameplay that has to be justified by the physics. Great little dev team (I've found bugs, they fixed them, I suggested stuff, they added some of it).
It's also on sale for less than £4 at the mo!

dV: Nice, thanks for the tip ! The game seems to have a linux version as well, and if it can be played without steam I'll give it a try.
Edit: aw, steam key .. ok, then not for me.

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident. Old, but gold.
Re: Looking for games with "The Expanse" setting
Ahh, classic! I finished it 3 times plus there was a wide selection of total conversion mods.
Re: Looking for games with "The Expanse" setting
This one is still unreleased, but looking at the footage it looks like mix of Nexus and The Expanse:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/8875 ... t_Command/
Edit:
Found some gameplay on YT:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rb7pqXYs1Gc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVOgv7Oih04
I must say I love the GUI - very simplistic, military feeling.
The battles give you best The Expanse feeling from all game I know so far.
Also this is from steam page:
"A high-level strategy mode involving the maneuvering of multiple fleets to achieve control of a solar system via multiple of skirmishes."

Re: Looking for games with "The Expanse" setting
Nexus: The Jupiter Incident for sure, but it goes from realism to science fiction very quick in the story line.
EDIT: looks like you already played it, ofc ofc
Only other game that comes to mind is CERES: Tactical Space Combat
It's made by a sole dev, definitely indie status. I really enjoyed it personally, love the customization that goes into each ship and the fleet battles are fun and engaging. It is quite janky though.

I have my eye on this, Falling Frontier:

Wishlisted in Steam.

Same, but to my taste ships move waaaay too slow and waaaay to much like "Sea ships in Space".nOy wrote: ↑Mon, 21. Jun 21, 12:22I have my eye on this, Falling Frontier:

However the idea of Star System based logistic and radar warfare seems promising.
One thing that bothers me much that, from what developers say, they push first for Multiplayer as Single Player and AI is non-existant yet and low priority.
Re: Looking for games with "The Expanse" setting
The developer is a one-man studio so yeah, it makes sense in a way. I am sure ship movements would be tweaked later on but I don't mind lumbering juggernauts as opposed to battleships maneuvering like fighters. Mass and inertia should feel substantial as it should, well, at least until tech comes along to negate those.mr.WHO wrote: ↑Mon, 21. Nope - this is from straight from the dev of falling frontier (from the discord channel):mr.WHO wrote: ↑Mon, 21. Jun 21, 14:43

Multiplayer is a massive maybe. There's huge technical challenges there due to physics calculations
Q: Will there be multi-player?
A: At release Falling Frontier will be a single player experience only. Depending upon the success of the game and prototype testing it is something that could be considered. Falling Frontier heavily uses physics in many areas within the game. Due to a number of things out of control of the developer it’s very possible that physics calculations between clients could become out of sync causing a cascading effect of incorrect outcomes which would result in unfair game play emerging.

Good to know MP is out of the window.
Still, one-man dev has a risk of not making to the finish line.

Re: Looking for games with "The Expanse" setting
The best other Space Game I know of. It is a fully 100% completed game.
One made made it over 25 years.
It has FULL Hotas support and easiest setup to do that.
It has TrackIr.
It absolutely rocks.
It is the masterpiece that is EVOCHRON LEGACY
(you can flip and burn just like in the expanse)
- it is like a non-grindy Elite Dangerous (3D cockpit) rather than an X4, you can land on and explore planets, capture wildlife , burn up going through the atmosphere, has many things in the game (meteors, asteroids, Rover, Terrain Walker, exploring is great, trading, crafting, blueprints, can hire other ships to join you, combat zones which include capital ships, stealth, many ships which you can customise how they are setup and even their shape and colors, military ships you can buy from carriers, can make and destroy stations and cities plus factions and an alien race confirmed and another one rumoured ).
The best thing however is the combat and for me it is better than Elite Dangerous, this includes the AI which operates in teams and a really great HUD. With Newtonian physics and doing strafing by increasing throttle as you kind of burnout around enemies it is massively fun. Includes torpedoes, rail cannons, beams, missiles, mines, stealth weapons, gatling guns etc.
The control setup is great if you have a hotas. I choose to use full throttle forward and reverse to have respective boosting.
Here is a trailer for the lastest version (64 bit):

I like the old trailer also:

Combat training:

Re: Looking for games with "The Expanse" setting
I don't like Telltale style games (both gaming and art).
They are like more fun to watch on YT or by streamer, but The Expanse with Drummer as main character might be interesting.
