I'll take it if no one has claimed it yet.

I thought I would post this, as the game Mechcommander (2 as well) has become freeware *Freeware since 2006*.

However a modder named RizZ created darkest hour, which combines, both the expansion, and a huge list of user maps. The difference is pretty staggering. Current version is 4.2
You can download it from a few places,

https://www.moddb.com/members/mcrizzen/ ... ullversion

I'm not connected to the project, but I did play the game back when it was V3, so this guy still been busy in enhancing this game.

Install instructions are easy. and you just need to remember to mount the ISO in the game folder, and double click on which screen ress you want. (some work better then others. (and you don't need the original disks anymore)

Utter loved this game back when it first came out. and nice that this works on the latest OS versions. (you do need directplay installed)

Have fun.

But thanks for the post. :D

“That explains its unusual shape,” Styanar said, grinning openly now. “Although it does little to illuminate just why your jowls are so flaccid or why you have quite so many chins.”

“I…” Had she just called him fat? “I am just a different species, that’s all.”

“Well nature sure does have a sense of humour then,” Styanar said. “Shall we go inside? It’d not be a good idea for me to be spotted by others.”

Epic giving away more games than I have time to play. Can't complain as they're all very decent.

Some games, although free, are still overpriced. They steal the most valuable commodity of all, time, and offer nothing in return other than biliousness.

So, yeah, still far too expensive.

One thing that bother me with Steam, is that unlike Epic, you are not notified about games free to claim (Epic at least put them on front page).
I wish there would be some kind of automatic notification on steam what games are free to claim.

[OT] Steam does have 'Free to Play' at the top of the 'Sort by Genre' option list to the left of the Steam Store page. If you click that then it defaults to the 'New and Trending' tab - so that should be a good starting point for a browse. [/OT]

For people who like Total War style strategies, this is on -50% sale:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/5025 ... Civil_War/

One of the best strategy games I played:
- Persistent army - kinda like in Homeworld series your army remains and get veterancy across the campaign.
- RPG elements where you have skill points as a general and officers have small skill trees.
- Huge range of historic weapons to choose.
- Logistic and economy of your army.
- "reputation points" which can buy you favors (new equipment, officers, cash, recruits).
- AI is very COMPETENT - what I mean? usually game have dumb AI that has 10:1 advantage to have chance with player, or the AI is cheating, all knowing. Here the AI PLAY LIKE HUMAN - play well, try to counter flanking, but also makes some msitake that you can exploit. Simply the AI is fun to play against.
- nice spit between side-battles and major battles.
- Union campaign is fun and Confederate campaign is a bit more challenge (but still within resonable and fun level).
- campaigns are huge, like 50 battles each.

And this is the best feature of this game:
- multi-phase huge major battles - example:
phase 1 you fight on left flank
phase 2 you fight in the center
phase 3 you fight on right flank
phase 4 you merge all phases into one huge battle (with the state as it was at the end of previous phases)
phase 5 you need to push/retreat to final point

The only flaws I found:
- calvary is not realy worth it's money as they require skill to operate and constant micro-management
- artillery is very inconsistent - sometimes barrage kill a few soldiers and sometimes one shot takes out several dozens. Only consistency I found is point blank scattershot that can be devastating.

I thought I would do a shout out for this software, really cheap on steam.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1283970/YoloMouse/

If you have trouble seeing game cursors, (only games that use hardware cursors are currently supported) Then this software will do the trick. I only recently found out it had a steam release, there is a pre 1.0

https://pandateemo.github.io/YoloMouse/

But that version is outdated.

I'm currently playing Dawn of war 2, on high resolutions, the targeting cursor is very hard to see. But with Yolomouse, you can set it to different cursors for different parts of the screen, for example, a blue cursor for abilities, and a cross for when you are targeting enemies. you can also change the colour and size of each cursor.

Like I said, it supports most games that uses hardware cursors. And you can add your own cursor as well. (doesn't work on the windows screen, only for games)

There are plans on adding a GUI to allow you to easy setup different cursors for different games. Right now, its

Shift + alt 1 to change the default cursor, shift + alt 2 for overlay cursors (GPU driven) and shift + alt 3 to change the colour. and shift + alt "-" or "+" to increase or decrease the size (minus quotes)

One last thing to mention, the software on steam is signed, so it shouldn't trigger any anti cheat software.
