Poor Performance In ATI
I have a 2Ghz, 512RAM DDR (2100), ATI RADEON 9700 PRO, Sound Blaster Audigy
My game run very slow with all of the effects off, I play in 640*480 with AA off, bumpmapping off, shadows off, and noting in the windows memory, and the game run under 15 fps in the cockpit.
If someone know a trick to how to make this game run smoothly please tell me the tips.

most of the time its a poorly setup PC. So time for some basic PC checks.
- Defrag each partion fortnightly
- Move the Virtual memory file OFF C:\, put it on another partion ideally not in your game partion. Also have it a fixed size Not windows controlled, size should be min & max at 2* your physical mobo ram
- check your Bios settings, AGP aperture should be 128 or 256, also give Fast Writes a try but NB that can cause more problems than its worth
- Sound cards and other highend expansion cards in PCI slot One, never have it in that slot as that shares an IRQ with the AGP slot, if there move it to a free one.
- Drivers, check no old Video and audio drivers are loose on your system. Get Driver Cleaner 2 which will remove any old DLL's from older drivers you have tried in the past.

Re: Poor Performance In ATI
Soundblaster Live! variants are coming up very regular in systems that are suffering from really lousy frame rates, I don't know if there is a connection but it is a consistency I've noticed, I don't have a Creative (and wont have one EVER again) and I dont have a framerate problem (ATi Radeon 9600 pro, with a similar system aside from the sound card).Orlando Benjamin wrote:I have a 2Ghz, 512RAM DDR (2100), ATI RADEON 9700 PRO, Sound Blaster Audigy

EDIT - I don't think it's ATi, because I know someone with a Ti4800 with same problems (Creative SB Live!)

I had the same problem. My System was a xp2400 with 512 MB ram and a radeon 9600 pro.
The frame rate was awful!!!!! But all other games runs fine?!?!?
Then i found the Problem...upgraded the Motherboard Bios... and finally it runs!!!!
I was one of the guys who dont believe that this could be a system specific problem, but it is definatly!!!!!
Now i am a lot less here in Forum because of playing
I am now back in Spaaaace...

Runs smooth here:
AMD 2400+ @2.01
640 MB @266 (512 2700 + 128 2100)
ATI Radeon 9600SE
1024*768*32 Bumbmaps-ON, AA-OFF ,Shadows-OFF,
Don't know how much FPS, ~30
Try playing with 3D settings in ATI control panel (choose between Performance & Quality - with a bare eye there's no much difference in quality)

It's not an ATI problem.
I have an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB and I am using the 3.7 Catalyst drivers.
CPU: Athlon 2400+
MB: Asus Nforce 1 -BIOS fully updated
HDD: 1 x 80GB Maxtor (System Drive)
1 x 12-GB Western Digital Special Edition (Game Drive)
Hercules Game Theater 7.1
Toshiba 8X DVD-ROM (old but oh so reliable)
530W Enermax PSU
Logitech Digital Extreme 3D Joystick
Nostromo Game Pad
512MB of PC2100 DDR RAM
2 days of playing time. The game runs very well at 1024x768 with only shadows off and quality adjustment on.
My other PC is a P4 2.53Ghz w/Ti4600
Abit TH7-II -BIOS fully updated
512 MB RDRAM
2 x 120GB Western Digital Special Edition
Santa Cruz soundcard
450W Enermax PSU
Toshiba 16X DVD-ROM
This machine runs the game pretty well, but there are definitely some slowdowns in high traffic areas.
All this to say that it is not a card specific issue, but the 3.7 Cats seem to be better than the later versions for X2.

it's not ATI cards.
why?
cause when doing the simulation i get anything between 50+ to 105fps. that's smooth enough.
i measure it using fraps.
but go in campaign and bamm - back to 10-15fps.
i read somewhere by a moderator here that this is related to the huge save game size.
so... waiting for patch.
PS for people who think their frame rates are ok have you actually measured them using fraps? or do you just say it cause it 'looks' ok to you?

This is my system:
2000+ AMD XP
512mb DDR 333mhz RAM
ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128mb
Sound Blaster Live! Value
Windows XP w/SP1
And ya know what... the game runs fine. Just letting you all know some specs that actually worked for a change Normally I would expect my computer to run it worse than everyone else, but it must be a problem with the driver sets on the newer hardware.
Oh, shadows are off but bumpmapping is on, 1024x768 resolution in 32-bit color.

Well i can say that i get very good performance on an ATI card
Athlon Xp 2400
Hercules Radeon 9800
512 Pc 2700 ram (corsair)
Abit NF7-s
Audigy 1
XP pro
i do have some glithy poligons however, but all in all the game looks ace and runs fairly smooth (usually more then 30 fps with the occasional hiccup but nothing to be overly concerned with (yet))
