ATAMAH --> I don't even know what kind of non packed version you are talking about. I don't know what to to with files I downloaded. Please do the mod version if you can... or at least ask someone to do it
Last time I used a mod version of your work made by Chris Gi... it worked perfectly! Can you ask him for help?

No, this time it's different. The former version used jpg as texture format, now it uses tga. I already tried to pack (I wanted to know how it looks) but it didn't change anything. TGA format is only used if there are no jpg version of the textures. But X2 uses jpg, which get read instead of the tga from ATAMAH.
Sorry, I don't have the time to convert the textures from TGA to JPG.

Ok, I downloaded
http://rapidshare.com/files/164271852/ATAMAH.zip.html. This archive
contains 05.dat and 05.cat. I put those into my x2 directory and
started the game. The HUD looks messed up, but otherwise, it's a great
improvement.
That's awesome work, ATAMAH, thanks a lot! They might as well release
a patch containing this upgrade!

Unpacking requires you to download the modders kit from Egosoft
Follow directions to the link:
Egosoft -> Downloads -> X2 - The Threat -> Bonus Materials
Go to the bottom and click on: X²: The Threat Modder Kit (Rev. 1.4) 1.46 MB
You don't have any idea how long it took me to finally find this kit.
Unpacking works as follows: (it has a readme that tells you basically what I'm writing, but my instructions are 100% self-done a day ago.)
1. Unzip Modder Kit zip.
2. MOVE program "x2tool" to your BASE X2 installation folder (the same folder as the executable X2.exe (Default: C:\program files\Enlight\X2 - The Threat\ )
3. Press Window Key + R to open "run" (or start->run)
4. Type: "cmd" without the quotes to get to your command prompt (Vista is similar, but not the same; looking for "command" should be enough)
5. Navigate to the X2 directory with x2tool
6. Run at command line with the following: x2tool -extract-dat <#>
7. Rename or move your tex/true folder. Move this Big mod's true folder to where tex/true was.
8. You're done
Notes on x2tool use:
1. # = number of dat file.
2. BEGIN with 01 and increment. (01 contains oldest files, and 02,03,04,05 overwrite some of them)
3. Do not put ".dat" because 01 is all it recognizes (it looks for <#> + .cat for the cat file so: "01.dat" yields "01.dat.cat," which it won't find).

Code: Select all
Command: cd
Use: changing directory
Example: "cd c:\program files\enlight\X2 - the threat\"
Alternative use: to get out of the current directory 1 level: cd.. (with the 2 periods)
Alternative use 2: cd\ (with the backslash you get to your base drive listing like from c:\program files\x2 - the threat\ to c:\)
Code: Select all
Example: x2tool -extract-dat 01

Mmm... So what's stopping someone from creating a Zip or Rar file that contains the data created through this method, to bypass the command line business? Not that it's a problem; I'm thinking in user-friendliness terms.
Edit: Ah, I see. It would still read from the packaged files, right? Pity. You could just rename the packaged files and download the entire game, but that would be illegal...
Edit: Whoooaaaa! That's incredible! Mods, sticky this or add it the the Mods thread! Egosoft, make it official!
Every so often someone does something incredible with an old game like this. Today you are that someone. Hold your head high and be proud, as you have made an old trader (and many many others) very happy indeed.
Edit (last one, I promise). There are plenty of Windows emulators for Linux, so that would probably be your best bet, username-1. A workalble alternative could be to juggle files between a Windows machine and your Linux box, although this involves a fair bit of hassle. A linux version was probably never released, so unless you want to decompile the app and totally rewrite it get Wine or something.
As a side note, would it be possible for you to isolate the specifically Russian-language images for us Atamah? Not all of us are versed in your tongue, so a specific Russian-only graphic set for briefings (or better yet, multilingual support) would be a great asset. I'll be more than happy to provide you with English briefing images for example, and (through Steam) can easily acquire the other language sets. Just tell me which files to look out for.

The screenshots link doesn't work; can you possibly redo the link or something?username-1 wrote:Ok, I downloaded

....If you are open for sugestions, I have a simple but big one - pls restore original graphic of aiming system (or make a version with it). Yours is very subtle and cute in desing... but when fighting I dont see it at all. And that was THE ONLY reason I went back to original. [/quote wrote:
Just in case anyone else is still wondering about this mod and this issue with the targeting reticule, use the Mod Manager (available at http://x2mm.doubleshadow.wz.cz/), find tex/true/795.tga and delete it. Install the mod and enjoy - it's brilliant. The game will revert to using the original targeter while making use of the vastly improved graphics.
Instalation depends from your game version (unpacked game version is when in you X2 game directory don't have 01.cat, 01.dat - 04.cat, 04.dat files), if you have unpacked game version, thenunknown1 wrote:can someone pls explain in more details from head to tail how/what do i need to install this?thx
You can used this as simple modINSTALLATION - just take out from X2 old folder tex/true, unrar thid mod and put new tex/true folder in the same place.
I've never used this mod, but I think this will help.I doubt this will work. AFAIK, X2 only uses a tex folder, if the game is unpacked. You need a mod. I already packed this to a mod, but it's not accessible atm.
Edit:
I uploaded the mod to Rapidshare:

Can anyone point me to a download source for this MOD? None of the links seem to work, except rapidshare, and rapidshare is giving me trouble about flooding (though I have not had one successful download start)
The new Superbox has brought me X2 and I am very impressed. I would LOVE to see what it looks like with this graphic upgrade...
THanx in advance to anyone that can point me to this file....
X3 player Lovin' X2
GF
edit:
Finally got it from RapidShare (EN)
Wow.... what beautiful work....
only issues:
1) Not compatible with V1.5 SaveGames
2) Static screens ("five Mizura later" (breifing screen pics and static cockpit text ) in Russian...
Easy install for me. replaces existing 05 CAT/DAT, and Run... Sweet...
Started a new game, and can live with the Russian text (non-critical)
Thanx for the Lovely Work (all those years ago), if you are still listening...
