Hi there, i'm playing an old save of Albion Prelude (Poisoned Paranid without any mods) and i have almost everything (except blueprint of J, K and I ...and Valhalla of course), and now i'm searching a good M2 to do some sector protection.

I've already tried the Boreas and the Python. Unlike almost everyone did tell me, the Python do it better than the Boreas against some Qs and a few L (i don't know why).
But i wanted to protect sectors that J or K attacks (and few L too), i tried this two but they are useless. So i asked for help to my french comrades one day and with their advice i bought a Megalodon that i put in full PPC and 16 Flak Artillery Array.

And it keep being destroyed easily no matter what....

Of course i didn't forget to put in 6x2Gj shields. But it's a useless ship.

After that i don't know what kind of ship is better to patrol in sectors attacked by J or K. Maybe Terrans ?
And why my 'friends' keep telling me than Borons and OTAS ships are the best while i can see it's not the case at all ?

I did load X3AP my latest save (from couple years ago). I had no sector protection; no patrols in it.
I'd guess that the NPC RRF did cope with the Xenon, since I had had no need to set anything up.

Besides, I was probably shooting Xenon personally, in sector.

That is, the Xenon are not alone, are they? Neither should your patrols.

If you are one against many, then then you might kill weak foes first while all your foes are killing you.
The NPC can and do respawn automatically. Your ships do not.

I said i'm not English, and yet i can't understand half of what you say...

"The NPC can and do respawn automatically. Your ships do not." i must do patrol for protecting my ships and my factorys, so i don't have other choice.

But yes you're right, maybe it can help me increasing the number of the ships sent to patrol (with the mission protect the first one ?). I will try that.

Probably not.

On protect (defend) the ships get a target to attack only if the escorted ship takes damage.

Try either "attack target of leader" or "attack enemy that is near the leader" (or whatever they are called).

No matter what ship i try, none of them can beat a single J alone oos... why ?? This is not even an M2 it's a M1 with 6Gj of shield only :evil:

When i tried with my Megalodon and a Tyr (with mission to attack Megalodon's targets), Megalodon can beat a J but with 6% remaining shield only :(

Anyone has a good ship against it ? please...

You are probably getting caught by the OOS turn based combat.

If the J goes first. It fires all of it's guns, and maybe some missiles too, at your ship. With every shot and every missile hiting it's target.

Your ship can be destroyed in one round, without even firing one shot. This is why your ships can be destroyed OOS without them sending a warning of being under attack.

You would probably get better results if you were in sector at the time.

The fastest ship shoots first; that's one of the reasons why Xenon ships are pretty deadly OOS. The other is that they also pack pretty nasty punch in their attacks. Losses of ships are part of the game I'm afraid.

Is it worth trying to use M8's for sector protection? Set missile fire probability to 100%. You would need to set up some kind of missile replacement system.

You are libel to lose a few, But they are cheaper to replace than M2's.
